David Packouz is an ex-convict who was convicted in 2011 for illegal arms trade in the United States of America. At the very young age of about 23, Packouz dabbled into the world of arms dealing which seemed to be reserved for the older and overtly experienced hands. He was invited by his younger friend, Efraim Diveroli, who was just 20 at the time to join in the latter’s company, AEY Incorporated, a company which had vested interest in the supply of arms and ammunition to war-ravaged parts of the world. And despite their young age, the duo was able to secure mega contracts for arms supply from the US government for the Afghan war during the George W. Bush administration. Their achievements (which included securing federal arms contracts worth about $300 million) left the entire arms dealing industry in the US shell-shocked. Their successes and failure will be discussed further.
David Packouz was born in St. Louis, Missouri as David Mordechai Packouz on February 16, 1982, to a Jewish family. His father, Kalman Packouz, is a Jewish rabbi and his mother is Shoshana Packouz. He has eight siblings and nothing is actually revealed about them. Although Packouz has a Jewish descent, he also holds an American nationality and his ethnicity is white. There is no information about the high school he attended other than that he met his friend and future business partner, Efraim Diveroli in high school. He is said to have attended college at the University of Florida, Gainesville in 2002 and also the Miami Dade College in 2003. Packouz is a licensed masseur and currently works as a music producer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Singular Sound Company.
Relationship With Efraim Diveroli, AEY Company
Efraim Diveroli is David Packouz’s high school buddy and he is also the founder and President of AEY Incorporated, a company where Packouz is the Vice President. The company deals in arms and is run by Diveroli who linked up with Packouz in 2005 and offered him to be part of his company – an offer Packouz couldn’t resist at the time. Their venture together was largely successful and in one year after their coming together, the company had secured 149 major contracts, mostly federal contracts worth over $10 million. Upon securing a $298 million arms supply federal contract from the US government to supply aviation rockets, millions of rounds for SVD Dragunov sniper rifles, 100 million rounds of AK-47 ammunition and all kinds of ammunition to the US-allied forces in Afghanistan in 2007, AEY Incorporated decided to defraud the US government by purchasing the said ammunition from China, a barred territory for arms and ammunition into the US, and which was contrary to the contract signed between the company and the Pentagon. The company intended to cover up the source of the ammunition – which were inferior and of low quality – by repackaging and rebranding them and Packouz was privy to this arrangement.
When the fraud was uncovered by the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, it led to a review of the processes involved in the award of arms contracts by the US Army to arms dealers. It also unleashed series of lawsuits against the AEY Incorporated and ultimately led to the arraignment and conviction of both business partners in 2011. While Diveroli was sentenced to a 4-year prison term, Packouz was sentenced to a 7-month house arrest order for his part in the conspiracy.
This story did not just gain a huge media reporting once it broke out, it also became the storyline of the 2016 movie, War Dogs. The comedy/drama film which was directed by Todd Phillips also featured David Packouz but not as himself but as a guitarist and singer at an elderly home. His ordeal with the AEY company never destroyed his innovative spirit as he founded his own music company, Singular Sound which he oversees today. He also invented the BeatBuddy – a drum machine which can be controlled by a guitar pedal while he also partners with the initiative, Guitars Over Guns to reach out to young people who are less privileged.
Who Is His Girlfriend?
Talking about David Packouz girlfriend seems to have become inevitable since his on-screen character in the movie War Dogs had a girlfriend called Iz, with whom he had a child in the movie. However, in real life, even though himself and his friend, Diveroli partied heavily when the going was good with the arms dealing business, there is no report of Packouz having or keeping any girlfriend at any point. So it is safe to assume that the part of Iz in the movie and the storyline of her having a child for Packouz was only added to make the viewers ask these questions.
Family – Wife, Daughter
Despite the fact that David Packouz’s life blew up in the open for all to see following the legal proceedings that followed his involvement with AEY Incorporated, he has still been able to keep his private and family life under the wraps. David Packouz is a married man but not a thing is known about his wife, not even her name. It is however known that his marriage has been blessed with a daughter named Anabelle Jane who was born in February 2007.
