Mossimo Giannulli founded his American clothing company Mossimo in 1986. The mid-range fashion brand focuses on youth and teen clothing like jackets, underwear, accessories, and so on. In his first year of business, Giannulli made a gross profit of $1 million. His business grew in leaps, with his gross climbing up to $4 million the following year.

With business going good, Giannulli expanded his company to include sweatshirts and sweaters. He later expanded some more to include women’s clothing and accessories. With less than a decade in the fashion industry, Mossimo grew into a multimillion-dollar brand. In 2006, Mossimo Giannulli sold his company to Iconix Brand Group. What was the Cheating Scandal About?

A conspiracy was uncovered in 2019 that affected several top American universities. Nicknamed Operation Varsity Blues, it uncovered illegal tampering and influencing of undergraduate admissions at these schools. Federal prosecutors uncovered a college-admission scheme that including the bribing of exam administrators to allow cheating on entrance exams, bribing of coaches and administrators of top universities to take unqualified applicants as elite recruits, and using NGOs to launder the bribery payments. Documents released on March 2019 showed the whole scheme was being orchestrated by William Rick Singer, a Newport Beach, California resident.

Mossimo Giannulli and Lori Loughlin were both arrested on March 12, 2019, in connection with the cheating scandal regarding their daughters Isabel and Olivia. The parents were charged with conspiracy to commit honest services fraud and mail fraud. Giannulli and his wife were among the 50 people arrested for being involved in the scheme. The case against them was that they paid $500,000 as a disguised donation to the Key Worldwide Foundation to facilitate the University of Southern California admitting Isabel and Olivia as part of the school’s women’s rowing team.

Mossimo Giannulli and his wife surrendered to authorities on March 13, 2019, and they were both released on $1 million bail condition. On April 9, 2019, the couple was also charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering. However, they have pled not guilty to all the charges brought against them.
