Lamman was born on October 6 1971, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but grew up in the greater part of Washington D.C. He is the oldest of three children including his younger brother, Chanu Rucker who was killed in 1992 at the age of 19. Entertainment runs in his family and he is just standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before him. His mother, Malaya (née Ray) owned a dance company while his father, Eric Rucker was a drummer. He is said to have a very supportive family who would go to any length to ensure he becomes and does all he dreams of including enrolling him in a suitable school where his passion was nurtured.

With such pedigree, adapting to the stage and audience wasn’t hard for him. He started acting in his 4th grade, portraying Martin Luther King and in his 7th grade, he joined the drama club where his skills were further honed. Rucker finished his high school education at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. before attending Carnegie-Mellon University.
