David Boreanaz is an American actor fondly referred to as the most steadily employed man on television. He is popularly known for playing the role of Angel, a soft-spoken and freakishly handsome vampire-turned-private investigator on the hit series, Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) and its spin-off show, Angel (1999-2004).
Newcomers to television would recognize him as the actor who played Seeley Booth, FBI Special Agent on the long-running comedy-drama series Bones (2005-2017).
David Boreanaz Biography
David was born on May 16, 1971, in Buffalo, New York, where his father, Dave Roberts worked as a weather forecaster and his mother, as a travel agent. He is of Italian and Slovak descent.
David’s parents were staunch Catholics and he was raised that way. His early education was spent at the Rosemont School of the Holy Child and then Malvern Preparatory School, Pennsylvania.
He decided to become an actor when he was seven years old, after watching the legendary actor Yul Brynner work his magic in the movie, The King And I. This decision led him to pursue a degree in cinema and photography at Ithaca College in New York. Upon graduation, David moved to Los Angeles to kick-start his career in acting.
Like other new and aspiring actors, David Boreanaz found it hard to secure any credible work in the industry. He spent years crashing on his sister’s couch, touring film sets and doing uncredited production work as a way to learn more about the show business and get his foot through the door. He also worked a series of unflattering jobs to make ends meet including house painter, parking attendant, and a brief stint handing out towels at a sports club.
Life Achievements and Timeline
After struggling for years as a background extra and other small uncredited roles, David got his first paid acting appearance in 1993 on Married… with Children, an American sitcom where he played a guest role as Kelly’s unfaithful boyfriend, who gets beaten up by her father.
Ironically, prior to his big break in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Boreanaz was cast as a vampire’s victim in a low budget movie called The Macabre Pair of Shorts in 1996. The opportunity to star in Buffy came when one of David’s neighbors suggested him for the role to the director of the series, after watching him walk his dog past their house regularly. He played the complex character Angel, a vampire cursed with a soul as punishment for killing a gypsy girl, forcing him to endure a life of moral ambiguity and contrition. Due to the show’s enormous success, David was given his own spin-off series, Angel, which allowed the character to evolve and fully develop.
David got his only major role in a movie when he starred in Valentine, a slasher horror movie in 2001. He had a supporting role in the movie, I’m with Lucy, in 2002. In 2003, he starred in the music video for Dido’s hit single “White Flag”. He also played the voice actor of Leon in a video game called Kingdom Hearts.
The actor began starring alongside on the television series, Bones. After the fourth season, he began directing some of the episodes. David has also appeared in some independent films including These Girls, Mr. Fix It, Suffering Man’s Charity, The Hard Easy, which also featured some other popular actors.
He played the voice of Green Lantern in the DC animated comic Justice League: The New Frontier. He has also enjoyed some appearances on popular animated series American Dad and Family Guy.
Interestingly, David was offered starring roles in Superman Returns (2006) and Batman Begins (2005) but he turned them down. He now stars as a lead cast in SEAL Team (2017), a new military drama series.
People (USA) magazine named him on their “50 Most Beautiful” list in 1999 and he has been ranked by BuddyTV on its “TV’s 100 Sexiest Men” list amongst others.
David and his father were awarded the 2011 Gold Medal at the Hershey Hotel by the PA Association of Broadcasters.
His Net Worth
David Boreanaz was paid 40 thousand dollars for every episode of Bones for the first four seasons, which increased to 250 thousand dollars after the fourth season when the show began garnering considerable success. He is currently estimated to be worth 30 million dollars.
Wife and Family Life
David married his first wife, Ingrid Quinn in 1997, and they were divorced two years later. A few months later, he began dating actress Jamie Bergman, whom he married on Thanksgiving Day 2001 in a private and intimate ceremony. They have two children, a son named Jaden born May 1, 2002, and a daughter named Bella born on August 31, 2009.
He enjoyed a rather serene and luxury-filled life with his lovely family. However, in 2010, David confessed to having an extramarital affair with Rachel Uchitel, mistress. His wife, who was pregnant at the time of the affair remained married to him. Since then, his personal life has had little to no embarrassing surprises.
