The beautiful thing about voice acting is that it’s not only a varied career but one that is equally exciting. What makes voice acting interesting and also exciting to watch is knowing that behind those colourful characters you are just loving in an animated movie or a cartoon, there is a human voice. This beautiful form of acting is the path Liam O’Brien has chosen to tread.
Brief Bio
The voice actor, who is also a writer and voice director, was born in Weehawken, New Jersey on the 28th of May 1976 to Lois Wiltse O’Brien as Liam Christopher O’Brien. His mom – Lois, worked as an educator and later as a quality assurance trainer and consultant. His father’s name is unknown. He has a sister named Cara.
After high school, O’Brien went to New York University Tisch School of the Arts for further studies. After graduation, he started working on various theatre productions across the country. While working on a Romeo & Juliet production in Cincinnati, Liam met U.S voice actor, Crispin Freeman, who introduced him to what he is into right now – voice acting. His first voice role was as Detective Kataoka in the 1989 film Patlabor: The Movie. From voice-over in cartoons, he got into anime and today, his work has gone beyond cartoon voice-overs, he has done many English-language adaptations of Japanese anime and is also into video games.
Notably, the characters he voices/plays vary in styles. He has voiced insane, mean, as well as comedic characters as he did in Girls Bravo where he voiced Fukuyama; Tales of Vesperia and in Darksiders, where he voiced the lead character War – one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. His other voice roles include in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Star Wars Rebels, Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Wolverine and the X-Men, Avengers Assemble.
Liam O’Brien’s major anime roles include in Monster as Kenzo Tenma, as Captain Jushiro Ukitake in Bleach, Lloyd in Code Geass and as Gaara in Naruto. He also voiced Red XIII in the video game-based film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and as Gollum in Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. His other video game appearances include as the voice of Caius Ballad in Final Fantasy XIII-2, as Illidan Stormrage in World of Warcraft, in League of Legends as Yasuo, and as Asura in Asura’s Wrath.
He was also in For Honor as the Warden, voiced Barker in Titanfall 2 and his most recent work is as Infinite in Sonic Forces. Asides acting, O’Brien, a great voice director, directed several anime shows and video games such as Resident Evil 5&6, Naruto, Evolve and The Last of Us.
The multi-talented voice actor was also part of the team that participated in a web series Critical Role, where various voice actors came together to play Dungeons & Dragons. He has also hosted the All Work No Play podcast and was a finalist for an American Anime Award.

As mentioned above, Liam O’Brien is the son of Lois Wiltse O’Brien; although his father’s name is not known, the talented actor did speak about him in an interview with breakthegame.net. Despite being born in Weehawken, NJ, the voice actor said he spent his summers in upstate New York. According to him, his mother grew up right on the Canadian border, and his father, about an hour and a half from there. His mom died of cancer in 2016.
His father went to college to study chemical engineering but later changed course and went into publishing and would later publish a magazine called Electronic Fun.
O’Brien is married to a fellow voice actress Amy Kincaid, who is of Mexican descent. They have been married since 2002 and have two kids together – a son and a daughter. Amy and Liam met at an acting school where they were both students; he was a class above her.
Amy is popular for her voice roles in DearS, Ghost Talker’s Daydream and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.

Liam went through a rough time after he developed a problem in one of his ears. According to him, it became very disorienting, until he found out that running helped him. He said he also pulled through that trying time that threatened his career by spending time with his family and friends.

Growing up, Liam O’Brien stayed with his grandparents occasionally. He has never been good with sports and didn’t know what to do with himself until a friend invited him to try out a play and that was it. His first play was as Sir Edward Ramsay in The King And I.
