Debbie McGee is an iconic British choreographer, actress, TV and radio show host, famously known for being the wife of the late English magician Paul Daniels. Debra Ann McGee was born on the 31st day of October in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, England to British parents Patrick McGee and his wife Lillian Howes. Her father worked as a goldsmith for a large manufacturing company and her family also ran a corner shop. While she was growing up, Debbie schooled at Our Lady Immaculate RC Primary School and after her graduation, she went to Tolworth Girls’ Secondary School. As a teenager, Debbie won an audition which earned her a spot at the Royal Ballet School.
Soon after her graduation, McGee became a part of the Iranian National Ballet Company where she performed with the Corps de Ballet group. She was forced to leave Iran during the Iranian Revolution and return to the United Kingdom. There she joined the summer show and touring Production Company called Bernard Delfont Organization. While she was there, the company found her a job as an on-stage performer for Paul Daniels in 1979.
Debbie McGee also joined Second generation troupe as a dancer, a job she combined with her appearance on Paul Daniels Magic Show. In 1991, she joined the society of British professional magicians called The Magic Circle. Later in 2017, she was honored with the Maskelyne Award for her wonderful impact on British Magic. Also, the amazing dancer formed her own dance company called Ballet Imaginaire with which she produced several ballet shows and tours around in the UK.
Being career-driven, Debbie also pursued a career in television and radio; she joined BBC Radio 4 where she hosted several shows including Box Jumpers (2004) and many others. She is currently working as an anchor for BBC Radio’s Sunday morning show in Berkshire. Following his wonderful impact in the world of magic, the genius was honored with the Magician of the Year Award in 1982 and the Golden Rose of Montreux in 1985.
The wonderful couple met each other in London while Debbie worked as his assistant on his magic show in May 1979. Seeing the connection between them, Daniels and Debbie started their relationship which finally ended in living happily ever after. They walked down the aisle in April 1988 and after their wedding, the pair continued working together on the magic show until it ended in 1994. Meanwhile, the couple didn’t have any kids of their own.
Prior to their marriage, Paul was previously married to a lady named Jacqueline Skipworth. They were married for fifteen years from 1960 to 1975. Together they had three sons – Paul, Martin, and Gary Daniels. After their marriage, Debbie became a stepmother to his three children. Debbie’s husband passed on in March 2016 after suffering from an incurable brain tumor. He died at the age of 77.
