The boxer was born as David Deron Haye on the 13th day of October 1980 in Bermondsey, London, England. He was born to British mother Jane Haye and Jamaican father Deron. David spent his early years in Bermondsey, London along with his sister named Louisa and a brother James Haye. He developed an interest in becoming a boxer from a very tender age and he started going to the gym at the age of ten. He attended Bacons College, London.

David began his amateur boxing career when he was eighteen years old; thus making his first career outing at the 1999 World Boxing Championship held in Houston. There triumphed over the ABA light-welterweight title holder Courtney Fry to clinch victory in the competition. In 2001, he competed in the heavyweight division of the World Championship where he defeated Sebastian Kober to reach the finals. David eventually lost to Odlanier Solis in the finals to settle for the silver medal.

Boxing Record, Injury

Turning pro in 2002, David Haye won his first professional fight in the cruiserweight division by defeating Tony Booth at the York Hall, London in December 2002. The boxer also fought against stars like Lolenga Mock, Greg Scott Briggs, Vance Winn, Phil Day, and Roger Bowden which he won all his next six fights by total knockout. He won his first professional cruiserweight title in 2003 after his triumph over Tony Dowling. He successfully defended his title against Arthur Williams and Hastings Rasani in the same year.

Looking for a bigger challenge, David Haye competed for the IBO Cruiserweight title against Carl Thompson in 2004. Unfortunately, he was defeated by a total knock out which made him lose the title. The boxer continued to wax stronger, hence, winning his next four professional fights against Glen Kelly, Valeri Semiskur, and Vincenzo Rossitto. He won the European cruiserweight title in 2005 after defeating Alexander Gurov by knock out.

In 2007, David unified the WBA, WBC, The Ring, and Lineal cruiserweight titles after defeating the French boxer Jean-Marc Mormeck in November 2007. The following year, he made his final cruiserweight appearance in November 2008. He defeated Enzo Maccarinelli to win the WBO cruiserweight and equally retain his other titles. In November 2008, Haye joined the heavyweight division and recorded his first victory over Monte Barrett. He won his first WBA heavyweight title in 2009 and successfully defended his title in 2010. The boxer competed for the IBF, The Ring, WBO, lineal heavyweight and IBO titles against but eventually lost the game by unanimous decision. He went on to defeat Dereck Chisora to win the WBA and WBO Intercontinental heavyweight titles in 2012.

He sustained a head injury in 2013 which led to the cancellation of his big fight against . Upon recovery, David returned to the ring winning his next two fights and losing two more before his final retirement in June 2018. The boxer also had spinal injury back in 2015 which he has cited as the reason for his dwindling performances.
