Heizer made his first screen appearance in 2005 in one of the episodes of CSI: Miami. He played Joey Everton in the episode titled ‘Nothing to Lose’. His next screen appearance was in 2006 in a short film, Paramedic written and directed by Lior Chefetz. The young actor did a good job playing Young James in the film and was gradually getting acquainted with the intricacies of acting.

More roles followed immediately; Miles starred in Rails and Ties and Loon in the years that followed and also went into TV while at it. In 2007, he made appearances in series like ER, Bones, Private Practice and Shark. The actor soon landed his first major role in the NBC series Parenthood. Miles starred as Drew Holt for five years (from 2010 to 2015) in the show before going on to get yet another major role of Alex Standall in 13 Reasons Why in 2017.
