He was born on December 21, 1966, in Valley Stream, New York. He attended John F. Kenndey High School in Bellmore New York where he grew up. After his high school, Adam proceeded to the University of Michigan where he graduated in 1989. Schefter was a freelance reporter for the Chicago Tribune while at the University, afterwards, he enrolled at Medill School of Journalism in Northwestern University.
Schefter who was always inclined to writing began his career as an editor for The Michigan Daily Newspaper. He then worked as an intern for the Seattle Post-Intelligence. He also started writing for the Rocky Mountain News in 1990 after moving to Denver. After writing for the outlet for almost six years, he started writing for The Denver Post in 1996. Schefter journeyed to NFL Network in 2004 after working at ESPN’s Around the Horn as a substitute for Woody Paige. He also made appearances at The Sports Reporters for ESPN.
