Glory Johnson is a basketball player who is well-known for playing as a forward for the  Dallas Wings of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She is also popular as the ex-wife to fellow WNBA player, .

The beautiful and skilled player was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on the 27th day of July 1990. She is the youngest of five children born to her parents Mercy Bassey Johnson and Bassey Johnson Udofot. She has four siblings – a brother and three sisters.

Johnson began playing basketball at quite an early age. She is an alumnus of Webb School Of Knoxville and the University of Tennessee, where she bagged a degree in global studies and a masters degree in communications.

Before being drafted by the Tulsa Shock as fourth overall in the 2012 WNBA Draft, she played with the University of Tennessee Lady Vols recording 36 double-doubles over the course of her college career.

She was also on the team that represented the USA at the 2011 World University Games held in Shenzhen, China, where the ladies won all six games to earn the gold medal. During the championship, she recorded 6.2 points per game with nine steals, which earned her a second place on the team.

WNBA Career and Net Worth

Her professional career kicked off in 2012 when the Tulsa Shock drafted her as their fourth overall in the 2012 WNBA Draft. Johnson began her rookie season on a very impressive note ranking fourth in steals per game and by her second and third seasons, she was named in the Western Conference All-Star team.

She was off on maternity leave for the whole of the 2015 WNBA season and returned just one month into the next season (2016), only to be suspended following a domestic violence incident with Brittney Griner. By the time she returned, from the suspension, Tulsa Shock had relocated to Dallas and was renamed the Dallas Wings, thus, she re-signed with the team during free agency and that season, she averaged 11.3 ppg in 18 games with 6 starts.

During her comeback season, she also recorded the league’s 16th 20-point, 20-rebound performance of the season scoring 23 points along with a career-high 22 rebounds in a win against the Phoenix Mercury. The next season (2017), Glory Johnson continued to put double-doubles in rebounds and points as she did in her earlier career days.

She has also played internationally. From 2012 to 2015, she played three off-seasons for two different Russian teams; Nadezhda Orenburg and Chevakata Vologda. In November 2016, Glory signed with the Xinjiang Tiashan Deers of the WCBA for the 2016-17 off-season. Johnson was married to fellow WNBA player Brittney Griner. Before then, Johnson unlike her ex-partner Griner has never come out as gay, she simply met Griner, fell in love with her, and the two tied the knots.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, the WNBA star said before meeting Griner she had only dated and been in love with men and that she had just ended a relationship with a guy she dated in college right before meeting Griner at a basketball camp in 2013.

After their meeting in 2013, the couple announced their engagement in August 2014. Barely a month to their wedding which held on May 8, 2015, the couple was on April 22, 2015, arrested by the police for physically attacking each other, both sustained minor injuries after the incident.

A month after the incident, they wedded and a month after the wedding, the couple in June 2015, announced that Johnson was pregnant and that she would miss the 2015 WNBA season, surprisingly, the next day, Griner filed for divorce citing unfaithfulness. According to her, Glory Johnson had been texting an “ex-beau” while they were engaged and that she had attempted to postpone the nuptials several times.

She also alleged that Johnson engaged in sexual relations with a man she was apparently secretly dating while they were still dating. The divorce came through in June 2016.

On October 12, 2015, Johnson welcomed twin girls (Ava Simone and Solei Diem) who came 16 weeks premature. The twin had some health complications, which included one requiring heart surgery but by February 1, 2016, they were well and fit to leave the hospital.

Griner is not biologically connected to the twins as it was revealed that Johnson got pregnant through IVF using her egg and a donor’s sperm. The female basketball star has since moved on with her life after the acrimonious divorce from her ex-wife and found love with a new boyfriend named Christopher Fry, who lives in Seymour, Tennessee.
