Alec Ogletree is a first-round draft pick by the St Louis Rams in the 2013 National Football League draft. The inside linebacker position player is known for his excellent speed and aggressive mentality which gives him an edge against opponents and also makes him a fan favorite.

The former University of Georgia athlete who was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team is now on the books of the New York Giants who he was traded to for some draft picks.

Early Life and Education

Alec Ogletree was born on the 25th of September, in Newnan, Georgia where he was raised. While growing up, Ogletree was noted for his athletic ability which led him to play and excel in three sports; football, basketball, and track & field. He went on to become a standout athlete at Newnan High School where he was considered as a top football prospect.

He recorded 6 blocked punts and 1 returned touchdown as a sophomore and then 75 tackles, 3 interceptions and 6 blocked punts as a junior. His senior year showed enormous progression as he recorded 85 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions and 2 blocked kicks on defense as well as 33 receptions for 633 yards and 5 touchdowns on the offense side of his game. He went on to receive a No. 22 recruit rating by Scout.com, No. 29 by ESPNU 150, and No. 40 by Rivals.com and was named to the USA Today, Under Armour, and Parade High School All-American teams.

In track and field, Ogletree won the state title at the 2010 Georgia High School Association Region 4-AAAAA track and field championships in the long jump event. He was also part of his school’s relay squad and ran the 400-meter dash.

Following a number of offers from across the country from schools like the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and Florida State University, Alec Ogletree chose to attend the University of Georgia on an athletic scholarship. He played for the Georgia Bulldogs football team for two seasons under coach Mark Richt, making the 2012 Second-team All-SEC before forgoing his remaining college years to enter the draft.

After posting pre-draft stats of 40-yard dash – 4.68 seconds, 10-yard split – 1.56 seconds, 20-yard split – 2.66 seconds, 20-yard shuttle – 4.39 seconds, 3-cone drill – 7.16 seconds, vertical jump – 33 1⁄2 inches (0.85 m), and broad jump – 10 feet 2 inches (3.10 m) at the NFL Combine, Alec Ogletree was selected with the 30th overall pick by the St Louis Rams in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Alec Ogletree is married to his high school sweetheart, Alexandra Ogletree, who was born Alexandra Camille Adams on the 9th of May, 1991, in Fayetteville, Georgia. She is also the older sister of New York Giants safety, Andrew Adams.

The pair was said to have been introduced to each other by a mutual friend and have since that time been inseparable. They went on to tie the knot on the 13th of March, 2015, at St. Regis in Atlanta, Georgia. Together, they have a son named Austin Jonathan who was born on the 25th of July, 2016.

Salary

Alec Ogletree’s first contract was a four-year, $7.03 million deal that came along with a signing bonus of $3.49 million. In 2016, the Rams exercised their fifth-year option on his rookie contract and paid him $8.36 million. The following year, Ogletree signed a new four year $42.75 million contract extension that came with a signing bonus of $8 million to continue his Rams career.

Legal Troubles

Alec Ogletree has had a few run-ins with the law. The first was in 2010 when he was arrested over a stolen scooter helmet. He was later charged with misdemeanor theft and was also suspended for one game by his team. The next incident came in 2013, a few days before the NFL Combine, when Ogletree was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Arizona.

Injuries

Ogletree has managed to stay clear of any serious injuries during his career. His only notable scare was a pedal ankle fracture he suffered in a game against the Arizona Cardinals on the 4th of October, 2015, after recording 10 combined tackles (9 solo).
