Alex was born on the 15th of August 1993 in Portsmouth, Hampshire to a father from Jamaica and a white mom. Born with athletic genes, thanks to his father Mark Chamberlain who played professional football for 2 decades, Alex’s love for sports was immediately apparent from his days in primary school at St John’s College, Portsmouth.
Alex is revered for his incredible pace, another attribute he earned from his father. As a result of his pace, he was able to play many sports including football, rugby, and cricket. Alex excelled greatly at all sports and considered going professional with rugby when the London Irish offered him a trial; he was also offered a trial with the Hampshire Country Cricket club. In cricket, Alex was versatile playing as a wicketkeeper, bowler, and opening batsman.
However, Ox refused to honor both offers due to his involvement with the Southampton academy which he joined at the age of 7. He earned the nickname the OX in his primary school years as a result of his strength. The chap won his first ever trophy in a school competition where he also emerged as the best player, he plays in the midfield position.
Alex Oxlade Chamberlain made it to the Southampton senior team in March 2010 at the age of 16. On the day of his debut feature for the team, he was the second youngest player to make an appearance for the team, after Theo Walcott who would later become his longtime teammate at Arsenal. He put pen to his first professional contract in August 2010 and would go on to help Southampton get promoted from the League One to the Championships.
However, he wasn’t able to endure to the end of his 3-year contract as Arsenal came in August 2011 with a better deal. Though the terms of the deal were concealed, it was speculated to worth between £12 million and £15 million. In his debut season with the gunners, Alex scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Greek side Olympiacos, making him the youngest English player to score at the stage, beating Theo Walcott’s record.
Oxlade brought his Arsenal journey to an end in August 2017 when Liverpool signed him to a 5-year £35 million contract. With the gunners, Alex won three FA Cup titles (2 of which were consecutive) and one FA Community Shield. He began his national football career in 2010 when he was called to join the U-18 squad and eventually made it to the senior team in 2012.

Chamberlain’s mom is named Wendy and his father, Mark. His paternal grandparents emigrated to the UK to get a better life. Alex’s father Mark would eventually be born in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire on 19 November 1961. Mark would eventually become a professional footballer starting off his career with the local side Port Vale in the mid-1970s.
He joined rivals Stoke City in 1982. An incredibly fast player, he played as a winger and at right back positions. Mark would go on to play for other teams like Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth where he scored the most goals, Brighton & Hove Albion, Exeter City, and Fareham Town. He also played for the England national team. After retiring in 1998, Alex’s father became involved with coaching and was one of the youth team coaches when Alex was in Southampton.
Alex’s Mom who rarely makes media appearances was born in Portsmouth, England. In Alex’s 2016 , he revealed how his mom tried to push him to do drama in school.
Alex has an uncle Neville Chamberlain his father’s younger brother (Mark’s father had him with a white woman). He’s a retired professional footballer who played alongside Alex’s father at Port Vale and Stoke City. He retired 10 years earlier than Mark and became his agent till the end of his career. He also had a couple of coaching jobs.
Alex’s younger brother Christian Chamberlain born on 24 June 1998 is also a professional footballer. He began his career at Portsmouth and has played for Eastbourne Borough and Notts County.
