David and Iman welcomed their first child together on August 15, 2000, after waiting for her for so long. Their cutie was born at Mount Sinia hospital in Manhattan in New York. Her birth marked a turning point in the lives of her parents and they seemingly revolved around her.

Her father reportedly stopped smoking, drinking and turned to a healthier, low-fat diet to become a clean machine and lead a normal family life about the same period she was born.

Alexandria popularly known as Lexi or Lex was described as a miracle baby owing to the fact that her mother had trouble conceiving. Her parents even tried IVF to get pregnant but it failed and they were considering adoption when it was discovered that she was on the way.

Her Family Life

The beautiful Lexi was born to rock star David Bowie and fashion icon, Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid. Her parents solemnized their marriage in Tuscany, Italy on June 6, 1992.

He met Iman at a party in Los Angeles and described his attraction to the supermodel as immediate and encompassing. He was totally smitten from the first glance that he was already naming their future children. The two exchanged their vows 18 months later in Lausanne, Switzerland on April 24, 1992, in a private ceremony.

With the arrival of their bundle of joy nearly eight years later, their whole life setting changed. Iman described their daughter’s arrival as the happiest of times in her life and said that although they have been very close as a couple, Lexi’s arrival drew them even closer. She described the feeling as one of joy or a contentment that is almost palpable to both of them. Lexi enriched their parents’ life and added color to their lives beyond their dreams.

The rock star wanted to be so involved and active in the life of his little one. He would join in taking her to school and perform other activities with her.

Lexi’s coming also brought about David’s slow steps away from life in the spotlight. During that time, he began to scale major roles and only accepted only a few acting roles. However, he made a notable cameo appearance in 2001 comedy, Zoolander.

Alexandria Zahra Jones was the first child born to David and Iman as a couple but the two already had one child each from their previous marriages which leaves Lexi with two half-siblings. David had Duncan James from his first marriage in 1970 to Angie while Iman had Zulekha from her marriage to Spencer Haywood.

David Robert Jones, known professionally as David Bowie was born on January 8, 1947, in Brixton, South London, England. He was a leading figure in music for over five decades with his music and stagecraft significantly influencing popular music. David is known for hit songs such as Starman and Space Oddity.

He released four albums after his daughter’s birth. Heathen came in 2002 followed by the 2003 Reality and The Next Day was released on his 66th birthday in 2013. David was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006

He continued to spring with surprises up until his last days with the release of his 25th and final album, Blackstar on his 69th birthday in 2016. His sojourn on earth, however, came to an end on January 10, 2016, after an 18 month long battle with liver cancer at 69 in his New York City apartment.

Mother: Iman

Zara Mohamed Abdulmajid is a Somali born fashion model, actress, and entrepreneur born on July 25, 1955, and known mononymously as Iman. After she was discovered by an American photographer, Peter Beard, while in a university in Kenya, she did not look back but moved on to a career in modeling. She modeled for almost 2 decades and has her own cosmetics firm which she started in 1994. The firm focuses on difficult-to-find shades for women.

Iman was awarded a Fashion Icon lifetime achievement award on June 7, 2010, from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). The award was given her for her signature style which has had a great influence on fashion.

The supermodel cum fashion icon was married to the American basketball player, Spencer Haywood from 1977 until their divorce in 1987. They, however, had one daughter in 1978.

Siblings

Alexandria has two half-siblings from her parents’ earlier marriage.

Duncan Zowie Jones, also known as Duncan Jones is an English director, producer, and screenwriter who is best known for directing the 2009 sci-fi film, Moon. Her half-sister is Zulekha Haywood through her mother.
