Candice Bergen is a popular American model and actress who continued to excite her fans on the big screen from the 60s till date. She is best known for starring on a TV series Murphy Brown, a sitcom that debuted in the 80s. Bergen was definitely born to grace the big screen as she owes her acting and modeling genes to her model mother and her actor father. Candice Patricia Bergen was born on May 9, 1946, in Beverly Hills, California to Frances Bergen and Edgar Bergen. Her mother was a professional model and her father was a popular ventriloquist, comedian, and actor. Growing up, she was touted as “Charlie McCarthy’s little sister’’ they were referring to her father’s famous wooden dummy. Candice has an elder brother named Kris Bergen and she started making appearances on her father’s radio show at a very tender age.
She attended the University of Pennsylvania, but couldn’t keep up because of her interest in showbiz; she was expelled at her sophomore year after failing two courses in art and opera. While she was still in college, she was elected as homecoming queen and Miss University.
Before she ventured into acting, she worked as a model and featured on the covers of Vogue. Candice made her acting debut in a 1966 movie directed by Sidney Lumet with the role of a college student. She also bagged a role in another movie The Sand Castle in the same year, she was cast alongside , Richard Attenborough and the movie was nominated for the Academy Awards.
Candice gained massive recognition for her work in several films like Carnal Knowledge (1971) and Starting Over (1979) for which she was even nominated for a best-supporting-actress at the Academy Award.
In 1984, she published her first book, a memoir titled Knocked Wood. In 1988, Candice ventured into TV series when she took the lead role as a resilient television reporter in a sitcom Murphy Brown, a role which she is still famously known for and which earned her eight nominations; she won five Emmy awards before the show closed up. She portrayed a fierce, sarcastic, independent, liberal, anchorwoman and single mother that won the hearts of viewers.
Candice began her talk show Exhale with Candice on Oxygen in 2000 but it was later canceled and in 2005, she landed a role in a TV series Boston Legal where she played a role of a powerful lawyer which earned her a nomination for an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award. She published her second book, also a memoir titled A Fine Romance, in 2015. She featured in Miss Congeniality, Sweet Home Alabama, The In-laws and several other films in the 2000s.

Candice got married to her director husband, Louis Malle in his family estate in the French Countryside in 1980. The two only dated for six months before they took their vows. Their union was brought to an abrupt end in 1995 when Louis died at the age of 67 after battling cancer.
She was single for years after the death of her husband, however, she found love again in a real estate developer and philanthropist Marshall Rose at the age of 54 and they both walked down the aisle in June 2000. The two are still happily married to date.
