Born in Tai Po, Hong Kong on the 27th of September 1961; Andy Lau was considered to be born into a wealthy family as his grandfather was a landowner and his father a fireman. He moved to the slum of Diamond Hill with his father when he was six and there, he had his inconclusive secondary education at Ho Lap College in San Po Kong, Kowloon.

His Acting Career

Soon after he dropped out of high school, Andy Lau began his career. At first, he signed with Hong Kong-based television broadcasting company (TVB) where he eventually began his acting career in 1981. He appeared in the 1982 television series titled The Emissary and went on to play the role of Yang Guo in the then popular series known as The Return of Condor Heros, his impressive performance in the series earned him a spot in the limelight.

Subsequently, Andy landed a role in an All-Star challenge series tagged the Five Tiger Generals of TVB because the series also stars the likes of Felix Wong, Kent Tong, Tony Leung, and Michael Miu, which were the then most popular young actors and singers in Hong Kong. Afterwards, he played minor roles in Teddy Robin’s movie titled Once Upon a Rainbow. Interestingly, Andy also appeared in Boat People, The Truth, On the Wrong Track, and As Tears Go By in the later 80’s.
