Professional NBA small forward Anthony Brown began playing basketball as far back as in his days at Ocean View High School, Huntington Beach, California, where as a junior, he recorded an average of 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to earn the MVP title.

After high school, Brown played college basketball at Stanford from 2010 to 2015. His NBA career began in 2015 after he was selected by Los Angeles Lakers as the 34th overall in the draft. Along with the Lakers, he has also previously played for the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League, the New Orleans Pelicans, the Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves/Iowa Wolves and currently for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Anthony Brown’s Biography

He was born in Bellflower, California, on the 10th of October 1992 as Anthony LeJohn Brown to Quentin and Raquel Brown but raised in Fountain Valley. Anthony attended Ocean View High School, Huntington Beach California and graduated in 2010.

He started his basketball career as a high school student and was so good at the game that he became a recipient of several awards like the CIF Southern Section league MVP. The lad equally won the All-State selection thrice.

Scout.com considered him a four-star recruit and also ranked him 41st top player overall in the country, as well as the 7th small forward. After high school, he played for the Stanford Cardinal from 2010 to 2015.

Although his college career was troubled with lots of injuries that prevented him from playing, Anthony Brown still had a very solid career at Stanford, finishing with an average of 10.8 points, 1.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game. He led the team in assists. As a senior, he earned the All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention and was also a candidate for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.

NBA Draft

Brown started his NBA career in 2015 after the Los Angeles Lakers selected him 34th overall in the NBA draft. His first game with the team was against the Sacramento Kings where he scored 5 points off the bench.

During his first year with the Lakers, he was often sent off to the D-League affiliate – Los Angeles D-Fenders. In October 2016 he was waived by the Lakers. About a week later, he was picked by Erie BayHawks as first overall in the 2016 NBA Development League Draft.

He played just three games for the team before signing a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. He played 9 games for the Pelicans recording an average of 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds. On December 12th 2016, he returned to the Erie. In January 2017, he signed a deal with the Orlando Magic for ten-days and returned to the Erie BayHawks at the end of the ten days.

That same year, he was named in the Eastern Conference All-Star team for the 2017 NBA D-League All-Star Game. In August 2017, he signed a 2-way-contract deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, to split his time between the team and their G-League affiliate (Iowa Wolves). He became the first player in the history of the franchise to sign such a deal. In August 2018, he signed a new deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Brown was part of the U.S Basketball team that represented the country at the FIBA Under 19 World Championships in 2011. The team finished 5th with a 7–2 record.

Anthony has a degree in communication in May 2014 and a masters degree in media studies both from Stanford University.

His father Quentin Brown introduced him to the game at an early age. The senior Brown was a 1977 Central Valley CIF Player of the Year. He played at UC Irvine from 1977-81. Quentin coached at Los Alamitos but currently serves as the principal of Renaissance High School for the Arts located in Long Beach California.

His mom Raquel has been a huge fan of the Lakers since the 1980s. She is a graduate of USC and of the UCLA business school.

Coach Jim Harris had a huge influence on Anthony Brown. He, unfortunately, died during Brown’s second year at Standford and to honour him, Anthony had a message written on his shoes for his former coach.
