This 2014 Indian satirical comedy-drama revolves around an alien who comes to earth on a research project but loses the only device it can use to communicate with his spaceship to a thief who sells it to a godman. In a bid to retrieve it, he befriends a TV journalist, hence questioning religious dogmas and superstitions. Anushka portrayed the role of Jagat Jaggu Janini, a friend and confidant to the titular character of PK (played by Aamir Khan) as well as a news reporter who is instrumental in sharing PK’s message.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, PK was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed by fans and critics. After it was made on a budget of $12 million, the movie became the first Indian film to gross over $100 million worldwide. It raked in $140 million at the box office and currently, stands as the 5th highest-grossing Indian movie worldwide. More so, it notched 8.2/10 rating on IMDb and got 76% from Rotten Tomatoes.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)

This 2008 film is one of the most successful Anushka Sharma’s movies. Notably, this Bollywood romantic comedy film which was written and directed by Aditya Chopra was Anushka’s debut movie. It centers on a mild-mannered office worker named Surinder Sahni, whose love for the beautiful and vivacious Taani (Anushka Sharma) causes him to transform himself into the loud and fun-loving fellow to win her love.

After the wedding ceremony between Surinder Sahni and Taani, Surinder discovers that his new wife cares little for him. When she decides to enter a dance competition, Surinder disguises himself, joins the class and tries to befriend her. Taani soon falls in love with her new dance partner, Raj, unaware that he is in fact her husband.

Following her role in this successful romantic film, Anushka Sharma got her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress award nomination. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is not successful at the box office but also became one of the highest-grossing Indian films. The film got several award nominations, hence notching a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb and 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Band Baaja Baaraat (2010)

When it comes to highly successful Anushka Sharma’s movies and TV shows, Band Baaja Baaraat will have one of the top spots on the list. This 2010 romantic comedy film revolves around two youngsters from Delhi Shruti and Bittoo, on a quest of starting their own wedding planning enterprise called Shaadi Mubarak. However, their professional relationship is jeopardized when Shruti falls in love with Bitto.

Although it was not expected, Band Baaja Baaraat became a slipper hit, thus earning Anushka Sharma her second Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress. It also brought the actress to mainstream fame. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, the film earned positive reviews from both fans and critics. It grossed $15 million at the box office and was rated 7.2/10 on IMDb.

NH10 (2015)

In this 2015 Indian Hindi-language crime thriller, in which Anushka Sharma plays the lead role, it also serves as her production debut. It tells the story of a young couple Meera and Arjun who are professionals living in Gurgaon. When Meera walks out of a party late one night, she gets attacked by a group of unknown men.

Although she escapes through the skin of her teeth, it leaves her traumatized. Arjun, partly blaming himself for not being there that night, tries to make up for it by treating Meera to a luxurious desert holiday. As they stop on a Highway Dhaba for dinner, they witness a young girl being tortured by a bunch of hoodlums. The couple takes it upon themselves to save the victims.

NH10 was directed by Navdeep Singh and it garnered positive critical acclaim, hence grossing $4.6 million at the box office from a budget of $1.2 million.

Sultan (2016)

This Anushka Sharma’s movie follows a middle-aged Jat pehlwani wrestler and ex-wrestling champion Sultan Ali Khan (played by Salman Khan), who is living a lonely life in a small town in Haryana. After falling in love Aarfa Hussain (played by Anushka) a state-level wrestler and daughter of a wrestling coach, Sultan would do all he could to win her love and respect, hence getting married to her at last.

Sultan was released in 2016 and it became a hit, grossing $96 million at the box office. It was also regarded as one of the top five highest-grossing Indian films ever. Additionally, it got an IMDb rating of 7.1/10 and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Phillauri (2017)

Among ‎the list of Anushka Sharma’s movies and TV shows, Phillauri is yet another film that received mixed reviews from fans and critics. The plot follows a man Kanan, who was born under an unlucky star. In a bid to cleanse him from his bad luck, Kanan is told to marry a tree before he can wed his childhood sweetheart. Grudgingly, he agrees. To his shock, he finds himself being trailed by an unearthly spirit known as Shashi, who used to live in the tree. The bewildered spirit now finds herself trapped in the human realm, and Kanan must help her return to her own realm.

In addition to playing the role of Shashi Kumari (Dead “Phillauri” Spirit) in the film, Anushka Sharma was equally among the producers of this film. Rated 6.1/10 on IMDb, Phillauri grossed $6.5 million at the Box Office from a budget of $4 million.

Sui Dhaaga: Made in India (2018)

In this Anushka Sharma movie, the plot follows a small-town man named Mauji Sharma (played by Varun Dhawan), who lives with his parents and wife Mamta (played by Anushka Sharma). The couple enters into a Fashion Fund competition for upcoming designers where they emerged winners, hence starting their own company Sui Dhaaga: Made in India to the amazement of their haters. The film was rated 6.8/10 on IMDb and 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011)

IMDb rating: 5.9/10

This film follows a brash 19-year-old Delhi college girl Dimple Chaddha, who falls in love with a fitness trainer and a con man, Sunny Singh.  After duping Diple’s father, he left for Mumbai where he took a fake identity and sold a fake painting to a businesswoman named Raina Parulekar (played by Dipannita Sharma). He also duped another young widow named Saira Rashid. However, these three women come together to find the con man. They hire a saleswoman Ishika Desai (played by Anushka) to act like a millionaire heiress and help to nab the con man but she would later fall in love with him. Upon realizing the pain he caused everyone he has conned, Sunny later paid back all he stole from them and finally marries Ishika.

After it was released, this film got mixed reviews from critics and was rated 5.9/10 on IMDb and 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. That notwithstanding, it grossed $12 million at the box office from an initial budget of $2.9 million.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

IMDb rating: 5.8/10

Although this 2016 romantic drama later became a box office hit, it is quite imperative to note that it is not among the best of Anushka Sharma’s movies, as it garnered mixed reviews from both fans and critics.

It follows musician Ayaan Sengar’s quest for true love which remains unfulfilled as Alizeh does not reciprocate his feelings. In his journey, he comes across different people who make him realize the power of unrequited love. Anushka Sharma played the role of Alizeh Khan, the love interest of Ranbir Kapoor.

Directed by Karan Johar, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil got a low rating of 5.8/10 and 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. The good part, the film, which was made on a budget of $10 million, grossed $34 million at the box office.

Zero (2018)

Amongst Anushka Sharma’s movies and TV shows, this 2018 romantic drama film is the least successful of them all. This film revolves around Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a vertically challenged man, who is full of charm and wit, with a pinch of arrogance. Born to a wealthy family and raised in an environment of affluence, he is challenged to broaden his horizon and find his purpose in life.

Anushka portrayed the role of Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder, an NSAR (a fictionalized depiction of NASA) scientist with cerebral palsy and the love interest of Bauua Singh. Upon release, Zero garnered mixed review from critics and was unable to recoup its budget. It was made on a budget of $27 million and it hauled in $24 million at the box office.
