Over the years, the question about the sexuality of one of the world’s most popular conjoined twins – Abby and Brittany Hensel – is one that is often asked by a lot of people including the mainstream media. Due to the fact that conjoined twins are a rarity, those who are born so have attracted a lot of attention and media coverage. This is the case of Chang and Eng Bunker, the world’s first-ever conjoined twins who lived from 1811 to 1874. They were very popularly regarded as two of the nineteenth century’s most studied human beings. They got married to two sisters and had 21 children together, proving that conjoined twins can lead very reproductive lives too.

There have also been other conjoined twins who have had notorious sexually active lives. However, Abby and Brittany Hensel haven’t been one of those twins (at least, not yet). News about their sexual lives or relationships has never really surfaced on the media, mainstream or online. Before we delve into the question of whether Abby and Brittany Hensel are married, let’s get to know them first by answering the questions below.

Who are Abby and Brittany Hensel?

Abby and Brittany Hensel are one of the most popular conjoined twins ever to be born. These rare women were born on March 7, 1990, but they came out joined at their torsos. They were born to Mike and Patty Hensel and they have two younger siblings, Dakota and Morgan. Mike is a landscaper and carpenter while his wife is a registered nurse. Patty gave birth to her twins at a hospital in Carver County, Minnesota but raised them in New Germany. Their birth was a surprise to both their parents and doctors who suggested a surgical procedure to separate them which was best carried out while they were younger. However, the risk of losing one or both of them was high so the parents declined.

While they share the same body, most of their upper internal organs are duplicated. This means that they have two stomachs, two gallbladders, four lungs, 2 spinal cords and so on. They, however, have just two arms, two breasts, one diaphragm, joint ribcage among others. They work as a team to accomplish whatever they like to do, including clapping, playing the piano, putting on makeup, driving, etc.

The rarity of conjoined twins cannot be overemphasized. They occur in the range of 1 in 50,000 to 1 in 100,000 births. Between 40 and 60 percent are stillborn and 35 percent survive for only one day. These gloomy statistics made Abby and Brittany’s survival all the more intriguing and as soon as they could speak for themselves, interviewers were springing up from different channels. In 1996, they appeared on the show after which they took a seven-year-long rest from the media until their appearance Discovery Channel’s Joined for Life program. After that came a documentary on the teenagers and a reality show titled Abby & Brittany.

Contrary to some speculations especially because not many expected them to lead normal lives, Abby and Brittany Hensel went to normal school – the Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer. They learned how to write, read, walk together, run, ride a bicycle and a lot of other things like normal children. After graduating from high school, the twins proceeded to further their studies at Bethel University in St. Paul and in 2012, they began teaching 4th grade part-time at a yet-to-be-identified school. Due to their professionalism and hard work, they were promoted to 5th-grade teachers.

As their heights defer by some inches, so does their personalities. From the documentaries and observations, several distinct features have been found between the two. Brittany has been described as been reserved, soft-spoken, down to earth, quiet and fragile while Abby is outspoken, very demanding and less fragile.

Are They Still Alive?

There has been no news to support the passing away of the twins. The last reports about them, however, dates back to 2017 when they were promoted to 5th-grade teachers. Also, if one of the world’s most famous conjoined twins were dead, it will certainly make headlines on most if not all tabloids.

Are Abby & Brittany Hensel Married or Engaged?

According to some writers, the most sought after information about conjoined or Siamese twins are in matters pertaining to their sexuality and the irony is that it is also the least asked question. An expert wrote that she once asked whether Brittany will have the same feeling as Abby if she is kissed and Britanny’s response was that the same way normally-born people do not like to talk about their intimate experiences so also do they. Hence, much is not known about their sexual responses or reactions and research on this area of their lives is scanty if not non-existent.

This is made even worse by the fact that naturally twins can be secretive and Abby and Brittany are no different especially with regards to their relationships and if they were ever into one, they have never disclosed it – not to the media or their parents. So the answer to the question about Abby and Brittany Hensel being married or engaged is that they are not. This is despite the fact that the twins are open to the prospect of getting married and having their own kids someday.
