Asha Rangappa knows a few things about a lot of things. Her life events have covered everything from being a mother to working in law enforcement as an undercover agent. The Indian American who has also previously worked in politics is currently immersed in the world of academia and media.

She is an alumna of the prestigious Princeton University and Yale Law School. Rangappa knows how to make every second count. During her free time, she involves herself in local theatre productions, doing improv comedy or spending time with her family.

Asha Rangappa’s Bio, Age

Rangappa was born Renuka Asha Rangappa on November 15, 1974. There isn’t much information available about her personal life before her tertiary education except for the fact that she attended Kecoughtan High School, a public high school in Hampton, Virginia.

In 1992, she enrolled in Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. She graduated in 1996 with a degree in Latin American Studies. After her time at Princeton, she spent a year abroad in Bogota, Colombia, on a Fulbright scholarship. She left Colombia in 1997 having completed her study on constitutional reform.

Asha then went to Yale Law School in the same year to obtain a Juris Doctor (JD). While at the school, she was involved in a lot of extracurriculars, these included serving as a Coker Fellow for Constitutional Law and founding the institution’s first theater ensemble. They were known as the “Court Jesters”. She graduated in 2000 with a degree in law.

Asha Rangappa’s first employment position came as a law clerk for Hon. Juan R. Torruella in October 2000. She stayed in that role until September of the following year. After working in a law firm for about a year, she realized that wasn’t the route she wanted to take to become a federal prosecutor. Owing to this discovery, she left the firm and applied to join the FBI in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack. She was onboarded by the bureau in December 2002. Her time with the FBI saw her serve as Special Agent in counterintelligence investigations in the New York area.

She left the FBI in December 2005 and in the same month was brought on as Assistant Dean of Admissions at her alma mater, Yale Law School. Two years later, Rangappa was promoted to Associate Dean and is also the Director of Admissions at the Jackson Insitute for Global Affairs.

In addition to her responsibilities, she is an academic staff at Wesleyan University, University of New Haven’s Henry C. Lee School of Criminal Justice, and Yale University’s Jackson Insitute for Global Affairs. In these institutions, she teaches National Security Law among other related courses.

In 2003, Asha was admitted into the State Bar of Connecticut and New York. Her non-academic responsibilities also include serving as a member of the board of directors for the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, South Asian Bar Association of Connecticut, and the Connecticut Society of Former FBI Agents.

As a writer, Asha Rangappa has penned opinion editorials for the likes of The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times among others. She is also a regular guest on networks like BBC, NPR, and more frequently CNN where she has been a Legal and National Security Analyst since June 2017.

Rangappa was born to immigrant parents from Karnataka, India. Following the establishment of 1965’s Hart-Celler Act, Asha’s parents moved to the United States where her father would serve as a Lt. Col in the US Army. Through her parents, Vinaya and Jai, Asha also has one sibling, an elder sister known as Menaca.

The brown-eyed, dark brown haired Indian American woman did have romance in her life at one point. She was married to a man whose name remains unknown. The union didn’t last, however, because they split up in 2011 after seven years together. Asha kept custody of their two kids, a boy, and a daughter. They live with her in Hamden, Connecticut.

– Asha is one of the first Indian Americans to hold the position of Special Agent in the FBI.

– Her parents had known each other for just half an hour before they got married, yet they managed to sustain their married life for over half a century.

– After her divorce, controversy broke out on Twitter with many of her followers claiming that her ex-husband was Andrew Dodd, another FBI agent. This was never proven

– A week before she was called to report for training at the FBI training ground, Rangappa was involved in a car accident with her boyfriend at the time. She bruised her ribs and had to be rushed to the hospital.

– She reported to the FBI a month later and had to work through excruciating pain to scale through all their rigorous training hurdles. It was here she met her husband who was an Airforce Academy graduate at the time. He started to help her train to meet the minimum pass points for staying in the FBI.
