The American musician was born on June 17, 1943, in Brooklyn New York. Of Jewish and Irish descent; his mother, Edna Manilow, was of Russian Jewish descent while his father, Harold Pincus, was of Jewish-Irish background. Growing up, Barry Manilow attended Eastern District High School in Brooklyn. He later proceeded to City College of New York but did not finish at the institution. Barry’s love for the musical side of life pushed him to the New York College of Music.

The musician started his career in 1964 when he came in contact with a CBS director, Bro Herrod. His meeting with Herrod saw him write and arrange songs for a musical adaptation of the melodrama, The Drunkard. The composition turned out to be very impressive and was played in the Off-Broadway musical. Manilow later wrote several jingles and even became the musical director for the WCBS-TV series, Callback in 1967.

His first album, Barry Manilow, was released in 1973, and his second album, Barry Manilow II, was released almost immediately. The singer went on to release his third album Tryn’ to Get the Feeling in 1975. The fourth album, This One’s for You, also followed in 1976. Manilow made several appearances on CBS programs which he also produced. With his fifth album, Even Now, coming in 1978, it was clear that his career was on the upswing. More albums followed and Barry also went on several tours promoting his platinum albums.

By 1982, he had released his 11th studio album Barry Live in Britain, a recording of his live performances at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Barry Manilow graced the 90s with more record-breaking albums like Singin’ with the Big Bands, and Summer of ‘78. He graced the 2000s with a series of live performances recorded as hit albums. It has definitely been an interesting career for the legendary musician and songwriter.

Barry’s first marriage was to his high school sweetheart, Susan Deixler, in 1964. However, their marriage was shortlived as a result of Barry’s unwavering commitment to his music career. The singer said that despite his love for Susan, he was so focused on his music and was so young at the time that he lacked the mental capacity to keep a marriage. This gradually impeded the success of their marriage which later ended in 1966.

The singer started another relationship with Garry Kief, a TV executive, in 1978. The two managed to keep their relationship under wraps until they got married. Barry and Garry tied the knot in 2014 when same-sex marriage was legalized in the state of California. But the public got to know of their union in 2015 through rumors that were later confirmed.
