The American musician was born on June 17, 1943, in Brooklyn New York. Of Jewish and Irish descent; his mother, Edna Manilow, was of Russian Jewish descent while his father, Harold Pincus, was of Jewish-Irish background. Growing up, Barry Manilow attended Eastern District High School in Brooklyn. He later proceeded to City College of New York but did not finish at the institution. Barry’s love for the musical side of life pushed him to the New York College of Music.

The musician started his career in 1964 when he came in contact with a CBS director, Bro Herrod. His meeting with Herrod saw him write and arrange songs for a musical adaptation of the melodrama, The Drunkard. The composition turned out to be very impressive and was played in the Off-Broadway musical. Manilow later wrote several jingles and even became the musical director for the WCBS-TV series, Callback in 1967.

His first album, Barry Manilow, was released in 1973, and his second album, Barry Manilow II, was released almost immediately. The singer went on to release his third album Tryn’ to Get the Feeling in 1975. The fourth album, This One’s for You, also followed in 1976. Manilow made several appearances on CBS programs which he also produced. With his fifth album, Even Now, coming in 1978, it was clear that his career was on the upswing. By 1982, he had released his 11th studio album Barry Live in Britain, a recording of his live performances at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
