Rugby professional Ben Volavola is an acclaimed international sportsman. The Australian-born Fijian player has played rugby professionally for over eight years and has had his presence felt at the French Top 14 team, Racing 92. Ben Volavola – Bio (Age)

Ben Volavola was born in Australia on the 13th of January 1991. He relocated to Fiji as a child and lived there for a while. While he was growing up in Fiji, he began schooling at Veiuto Primary School where he first got exposed to rugby. His teachers noticed he had a natural flair for the game and he was greatly encouraged.

In 2000, Ben together with his mother and younger brother moved back to Sydney where he began High School. On getting back to Syndey, Ben started schooling at Endeavour Sports High school. He was here from 2005 to 2008 before proceeding to Newington College from 2009-2010.

Ben Volavola finally completed his education in 2012 in the ‘Australian Institute of Fitness’ where he obtained his Certificate III and Certificate IV. He also studied for a Diploma in Business at the ‘Australian Vocational Training Academy.’ Despite having a natural talent for rugby, Ben spent a substantial amount of time preparing himself for the ‘big leagues.’

Professional Career

Volavola started his professional rugby career in 2011 when he represented Australia (Under 20) team at the ‘IRB Junior World Championship’ in Italy. He then signed with the ‘Waratahs Extended Playing Squad’ ahead of the ‘Super Rugby Season’ (2013).

Ben Volavola player signed a two-year deal with the ‘Crusaders’ ahead of the ‘Super Rugby Season’ (2016). He also announced the intention of playing for ‘Fiji’ in the Rugby World Cup of 2015. He played all Fiji’s 4 matches against some of the biggest team losing 3 and winning 1.

The young player continued to improve his game. He signed with ‘Melbourne Rebels’ in 2017, playing there for a season before moving to another club. In the same year 2017, Ben moved to France where he joined ‘Bordeaux Begles,’ a French Top 14 club. He has since moved to another French club in 2018. He presently plays with ‘Racing 92.’

The exceptional rugby player has a mixed ethnicity. His father, Dinesh Shankar is Indian while his mother Ema Volavola is Fijian. While nothing much is known about his father, his mother is the daughter of Ratu Peni Volavola, a onetime Suva Mayor. She studied Commerce at Sydney University. Ema is a staunch Christian and has raised her children the same way.

She also believes that Ben’s talent is something that runs through the family because both of her parents once played sports professionally while they were young. Ben Volavola has spoken about the support he gets from his family at different interviews. He appreciates them for constantly praying for him and having his back. He confesses that playing rugby has been his lifelong dream and he wants to make his family proud.

Ben Volavola is in a relationship with Shailene Woodley. The duo met in Fiji while Shailene was there filming the movie, Adrift.
