In every sport, there are those regarded as the bad boys and spoilt brats. For Formula 1, Eddie Irvine who was once touted as the spoilt one of the sport would tell you the brat is Sebastian Vettel while for football, the lots may just fall on Odell Beckham Jr. In tennis, it will just have to be Bernard Tomic who although has made a name for himself on the court as a great player, has also made it off the court for the controversies he is always courting.

Bernard Tomic’s Biography

Tomic was born on 21 October 1992 in Stuttgart, Germany to a Bosnian mother, Ady Tomic and a Croatian father, John who were both working in Germany when he was born. When he was 3, the family moved to Australia where he was raised alongside his younger sister Sara Tomic who is also a professional tennis player.

Since his days as a little child, his father who later worked as a taxi driver saw to the development of Bernard and his younger sister in the sport. He had his primary education from the Southport State School. From there, he was offered a scholarship at the Southport School for high school.

Before he was 16, Tomic had already dominated the junior category by winning three Orange Bowl trophies in the world junior championships, as well as the Australian Open boys’ singles title. Thanks to his success, his father soon decided to quit his job and settle down as his son’s coach. The most interesting thing about it all is that the elder Tomic has never played Tennis.

Earlier in his career, even before the ITF junior tour, his dream was to become the number 1 tennis player in the world and win the Grand Slams. With a successful run and two junior grand slams to his name, he ended his career with the highest junior ranking.

He was only 15 in 2018 when he began his professional career at the Australian Open where he was only able to make it beyond the first stage.

By the start of 2019, he had already recorded 4 career titles. He reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal once (2011 Wimbledon Championships). His highest world ranking was in January 2016 when he was ranked World No. 17.

Beyond his successes, he has a long list of controversies that include wanting his father ejected during Miami Open, bashing out on people like Lleyton Hewitt, ranting out against the Tennis Australia, and some minor issues with the police.

His Girlfriend, Parents and Family

As already stated, Tomic’s parents are John and Ady Tomic. After his family moved to Australia, his mother went ahead to obtain two degrees while his father continued to work and help the kids with their tennis.

When it comes to his relationship side of life, the Australian tennis player has dated a number of women in the past. He once dated a Gold Coast beauty, Donay Meijer but the relationship ended in 2012. The next woman he dated was Chelsey Grbcic but again, the relationship ended shortly afterwards.

Much later, the woman that became his girlfriend was model Emma Blake-Hahnel whom he dated for more than a year before he abruptly broke up with her. In his usual controversial manner, Bernard Tomic did not let her know he was breaking up with her, instead, he told the media that he was no longer with the model and he was single. Blake-Hahnel found out that she was alone in the relationship from the tabloids.

What Is His Net Worth?

For the Tomics, the road has been long. Before the birth of the tennis player and his sister, their parents were refugees who fled to Germany after they lost everything before later moving to Australia.

Less than three decades after it all, Bernard Tomic has already acquired a net worth of $15 million. He has won more than $5 million in prizes, thanks to his very successful career thus far. Also, he has cashed in from the numerous endorsement deals he has had, including brands such as Nike and Head.

In 2018 when he was pressed by journalists on why he failed to qualify for the Australian Open, he responded by telling them he was just counting his money before sarcastically telling them to go make $13 to 14 million.
