In the world of sports broadcasting, Beth Mowins will always have her own place. She is a media personality who became famous for her work on ESPN and CBS as a play-by-play broadcaster. When she first began her career, there were not many who were doing the same thing and so there were not many people that she could look up to. Instead, the veteran broadcaster grew into the one that others would look up to. She has been involved in almost everything from college football to softball, basketball, and everything else that makes it her way.

The Syracuse native has, thus far, enjoyed a successful career setting the record for being the first woman to achieve the feat of calling a nationally televised NFL game only after Gayle Sierens as far back as 1987.

Beth Mowins’ Bio

26th May 1967 was the day that the media personality was born in Syracuse, New York. Beth Mowins was brought up by a mother whose name still remains unknown in the public domain and a father whose name is Len Mowins.

As a little girl growing up, she fell in love with sports as well as sports reporting, so much that as a girl of 8, she would be making comments when watching sports. Also, whenever she joined other kids to play games outside, she would start calling the games.

Beth got the encouragement of her mother to keep calling as many games as she wanted and with a father who was a teacher at the local high school and also a coach, she was always close to sports.

Beyond calling games, Beth Mowins also got involved in a number of sports including soccer, softball, and basketball. She played these sports when she was a student at North Syracuse High School in North Syracuse. After she was through with her high school education and had moved to Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, she continued her sports and for two seasons, she was the captain of the basketball team of the college.

One would think that she would become a professional basketball player because she achieved so much with the school while she was there. She was a 1000-point scorer and also a three-time all-conference star who still holds the record for the all-time assistant leader of the college with 715. However, after graduating in 1989, she would go on to obtain a masters from Syracuse University.

Professional Career

Her path to becoming a professional announcer began when she was still in Junior high and was called upon to do public addresses for various games including high school softball and basketball. Professionally, however, her first work was in Homer, New York where she worked as a reporter, news director, sports director, and morning DJ with a local radio station, WXHC-FM Radio. The broad responsibilities she got there helped her to learn so much about the job.

In 1994, she joined ESPN with which she still remains. She has called men’s and women’s college sports for the sports network for more than 3 decades, becoming the first woman to call an NFL game in 30 years, a feat she achieved in 2017 when she joined Rex Ryan to call the Los Angeles Chargers vs. Denver Broncos game.

She has received accolades including being inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. In addition to that, she is also a member of the Lafayette College Maroon Club Hall of Fame. In 2014, she was honored with a CoSIDA Jake Wade Award in recognition of her outstanding media contributions as regards collegiate athletics.

Is She Married, Who Is Her Husband?

Even though she is a big name in the public domain, Beth Mowins has consistently maintained a very private life so much that nothing of significance is known about her away from her professional life. As regards her relationship, she is still unmarried even though she has seen the other side of mid ages. More so, there has been nothing to suggest that she is in a relationship with anyone.

Is Beth Mowins a Lesbian?

As a result of the secrecy that surrounds her love life, there are those that speculate on social media that the veteran broadcaster could as well be a lesbian. There is, however, nothing of substance to support this speculation except for the fact that she has maintained complete secrecy when it comes to her love life.

That said, Mowins now lives alone in her home in Saginaw, Michigan.
