Beverly D’Angelo is an American singer and actress who has featured in well over 60 movies which range from comedy, romance to the horror movies such as Sentinel. D’Angelo is notable for her role in Ellen Griswold in the National Lampoon’s Vacation films form 1983 to 2015.

She has been nominated for prestigious awards including the Golden Globe Award for her acting role in the 1980 movie, Coal Miner’s Daughter as well as an Emmy Award for her role as Stella Kowalski in the 1984 film, A Streetcar Named Desire.

Beverly D’Angelo’s Early Life, Age 

Beverly Heather D’Angelo was born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 15, 1951, into an entertainment prone family. Her father, Eugene Constantino “Gene” D’Angelo is a bass player and television station manager while her mother, Priscilla Ruth (née Smith is a violinist. She is the only daughter of her parent, raised alongside her three brothers, Jeff, Tim and Tony. Her mother is of English, Irish, Scottish, and German ancestry, and her father was of Italian descent.

Growing up in her place of birth, the actress attended Upper Arlington High School in Upper Arlington, a northwest suburb of Columbus. She was awarded the Upper Arlington Alumni Association (UAAA) Distinguished Alumnus Award for her career achievement in 2009.

Career

As one whose parents are into music, Beverly D’Angelo picked an interest in the art. She first worked as an animator/cartoonist at Hanna-Barbera Productions before moved to Canada in pursuit of a rock singing career. She worked as a session vocalist and sang with the Hawkins band until she joined the movie industry. D’ Angelo got a life changing movie break in 1983 when she featured in Vacation, featuring co-actors such as Chevy Chase and Harold Ramis.

Speaking about her success in signing for the role, D’ Angelo said she didn’t think the movie casts knew they were “setting up the tent-pole for a franchise.” She played the role of a mother in the movie at age 29 against the advice of her agent. But the actress took the risk and didn’t seem to regret it as she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that Vacation didn’t only bring her career success, but also a life-long friendship with Chase.

Over the years in Hollywood, Beverly D’Angelo continues to be active and get roles for voice acting as well. She had main roles in several made for TV dramatic films such as Slow BurnJudgment Day: The John List Story, and Sweet Temptation.

Sticking close to what she knows how to do best, D’ Angelo, has appeared steady in multiple Television films and series from 1976 to 2017. One of her latest movie Dreamland released in 2016 was one among the many roles D’Angelo loved featuring in. According to her, it was a fantastic experience on every level with a truly independent spirit that united everybody.

In 2017, the Deadline show announced that D’Angelo would return for season two, to continue playing the role of National Security Advisor Gregson. Her other movies include Entourage (2005 – 2011); Gamers: The Movie (2006); and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008).

The Hollywood actress had her twin children, Anton (17) and Olivia (17) with former partner Al Pacino in 2001. D’Angelo was 48 when she got pregnant and gave birth at 49 years old. She and the fellow actor and partner separated shortly after the twins were born. Afterwards, she and Pacino had a custody battle in 2003, when the twins were just 2 years old.

However, they were able to come to an agreement to share equal and undisputable custody. Before that, D’ Angelo was married to Don Lorenzo Salviati, an Italian aristocrat from 1981 to 1995. She also dated production designer Anton Furst, before he committed suicide in 1991.
