William Scott Goldberg was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 27, 1966. He has a Jewish heritage which meant he had to go through the Jewish ritual, Bar Mitzvah when he was thirteen years old. His parents are Jed Goldberg, a Harvard graduate who is both a gynecologist and an obstetrician and Ethel Goldberg who is a musician (his mother plays the violin) and a horticulturist. He is the last child of the family. He has three siblings, two older brothers named Steve and Michael Goldberg and one older sister named Barbara Goldberg.

He attended Thomas Edison High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma. After his high school education, he proceeded to the University of Georgia, where he obtained a degree in psychology. Although Bill Goldberg is known today as a wrestler, football was his first love as he fell in love with football at a very young age. Bill Goldberg played high school and college football. His impressive play in high school earned him a college football scholarship with the University of Georgia where he went on to play for the Bulldogs (University of Georgia’s football team).

Career Synopsis

After college, Bill Goldberg was selected in the 1990 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams with the 302nd overall selection (11th round). His professional football career would also see him play for the CFL Sacramento Gold Miners and Atlanta Falcons. He was also on the roster of the Carolina Panthers for the 1995 season even though he never played a game for them.

A career ending injury would see him leave the NFL without any level of accomplishment. And even though he was satisfied to have played in the NFL at all (a lifelong dream), his regret was not having achieved anything in the game he loved so much. He ventured into the world of wrestling in 1997 after the idea was suggested to him while he was undergoing rehabilitation from his injury.

Goldberg fought in the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) between 1996 and 2002, the All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) between from 2002 to 2003 before joining the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in March 2003 for one year and feuding with star names such as Chris Jericho, , and Triple H. In 2018, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He took a brief hiatus from WWE in 2005 and worked in the mixed martial arts (MMA) where he served as a commentator.
