American-born singer and songwriter, Bill Hudson has indeed come a long way. He is a former member of the music trio “The Hudson Brothers” which he formed alongside his brothers. Their popularity soared between the 1960s and the 1970s and they also had their own TV show The Hudson Brothers Show.

In addition to his success in music, Bill Hudson also had a brief acting career appearing in a number of films including the 1983 horror-comedy flick Hysterical. However, he has not enjoyed much popularity following the group’s dissolution in 1981. He released his memoir in 2011 after a long hiatus from the media circles.

Bill Hudson: Biography & Age

Bill Hudson was born William Louis Hudson on the 17th of October 1949. He was born in Portland, Oregon and he also grew up there. He has Italian ancestry from his mother’s side of the family. He was the first child of Eleanor (née Salerno) and William Louis Hudson. He was raised mainly by his mother after his father left the family when he was six years old. He was brought up in the Roman Catholic faith and he has two younger brothers Brett and Mark who eventually became his career partners.

His Career

Bill, Brett and Mark Hudson began making music as teenagers. The boys had been encouraged to pursue their singing talents by their mother who was also a singer. The Hudson brothers initially went by the name ‘My Sirs’ and they began performing as a group in the 1960s. They won several music competitions in their local area after which they began recording their own songs.

They renamed the band to “The New Yorkers” and went on to release a string of successful singles in the late 1960s. In 1970, they had their name changed again to “Everyday Hudson” and 2 years later, the appeared on television as “The Hudson Brothers”. They got signed to Elton John’s record label, The Rocket Record Company, in 1973 and they continued to release more hit singles afterward.

The Hudson Brothers recorded a notable guest appearance on the Sonny & Cher show in 1974 and owing to their brilliant stage performance, they were offered a slot on the CBS network to headline their own show. The Hudson Brothers Show (1974) was a massive success and it led to a spin-off The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show (1974-75). As expected, the band’s TV appearance gave a major boost to their music career and also earned them the status of teen idols.

The Hudson Brothers released 6 studio albums and one compilation album between 1972 and 1980. Three of their albums Totally Out of Control (1973), Hollywood Situation (1974) and Ba-Fa (1975) charted on the Billboard 200. Their most successful single “So You Are a Star” peaked at no 21 on the Billboard charts.

Bill Hudson and his brothers also appeared in the movies Zero to Sixty (1978) and Hysterical (1983). He played the role of Mr. Dawkins in the comedy adventure film Big Shots (1987) and he also recorded a guest role as Michael Plenn in the hit comedy series Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989-92). After nearly two decades away from mainstream show business, Hudson released his memoir Two Versions: The Other Side of Fame and Family in December 2011.

Children and Family Life

Bill Hudson has been married twice in the past though he is currently unmarried. His first marriage was to actress and singer Goldie Hawn. They got married in 1976 and had 2 children together. Their union hit the rocks in 1980 with Hudson filing for a divorce. The divorce was eventually finalized in 1982.

Hudson married another actress Cindy Williams in 1982. They also had 2 children together and their union was much more enduring. However, the couple parted ways in 2000, bringing an end to their 22-year marriage.

Bill Hudson welcomed two children during his marriage to Goldie Hawn. Their son, , was born in 1976 while their daughter, , was born in 1979. Hudson’s first two children need no introduction as they are both Hollywood stars having towed a similar career path as their famous parents.

However, Oliver and Kate have a strained relationship with their father and they have remained estranged for several years. Hudson has alleged in the past that their mother Goldie Hawn had alienated him from them.
