When sometime in the early to mid-90’s some high school boys decided to form a band called Kara’s Flowers, had anyone told them just how big a brand they would become they’d probably have laughed it off. But fast forward a decade and formerly known as Kara’s Flowers is one of the hottest pop rock bands on the planet. We now run a biography on one of its earliest pillars, Ryan Dusick.

Ryan Dusick Biography

Ryan Dusick was born in Los Angeles, California, US on September 19, 1977. For Ryan Dusick, his rise in the musical world started while he was still in high school. He attended a prep school called Brentwood School. It was there that Dusick met and the pair soon took up music as a passion. They linked up with Jesse Carmichael and Mickey Madden and formed the band Kara’s Flowers.

The time they spent doing music meant that their academics suffered but soon their efforts began to pay off. They had their first official gig playing at the famous Los Angeles club the Whiskey-a-Go-Go. This outing allowed the band to sign a record deal with Reprise Records a label of the Warner Brothers.

Ryan played the drums, Adam was the group’s lead singer, Jesse was the keyboardist while Mickey had the bass. They began to pull quite a following in and around the City of Angels and they released their first and only album in 1997, it was titled The Fourth World. The album really never struck a chord with the public and after a brief tour, later in 1999, Kara’s Flowers was disbanded. Ryan Dusick took off for college at the University of California, Los Angeles as did the rest of the band. Dusick majored in English.

Birth of Maroon 5

By the time everyone was done with college, they were reunited again in 2001. It was during this period that the group were trying to chart a new path. They soon met who had come to Los Angeles at about that time and extended an invitation to him to join them. When the quintet was completed, the group were christened as the revamped Maroon 5. They set out to write fresh songs and most of which were inspired by . In June 2002, Maroon 5 scored a deal with Octone Records and released the album Songs About Jane.

The band began to make some serious inroads on the music scene after playing during the opening slot for John Mayer during a summer tour in 2003. By 2005 at the 47th Grammy Awards, the band was named the Best New Artist. There was another Grammy Award the following year and the band went on constant tours.

Why Did Ryan Dusick Leave Maroon 5?

It so happened that as a result of the constant touring, Dusick became an unfortunate casualty as he injured his arm. He was forced to stop playing in late 2004 and he underwent tests with an attempt at healing. It, however, became apparent that Dusick could not continue and was replaced by Matt Flynn in September of 2006.

After the unfortunate injury that led to Dusick leaving Maroon 5, he kept his head above water and he was credited as the “Musical Director” in the liner notes of the band’s second album It Won’t Be Soon Before Long that was released in 2007. Dusick also produced the debut album of Former Future, the album was titled All The Things We Said.

Dusick comes from what one can regard as Hollywood royalty. He is the grandson of Jack Dusick who was a Hollywood makeup artist. He is the cousin of actor David Farentino. Though his career with Maroon 5 was short-lived, we can take a look at some of the works he was able to produce while he had the chance to do so.

While with Kara’s Flowers, Dusick played the drums and percussion and during that period they released two albums. We Like Digging? in 1995 and The Fourth World in 1997. With Maroon 5, he helped produce the album Songs About Jane in 2002 while playing the drums and a litter of singles as well. He headed the production of Sara Bareilles album – Careful Confessions in 2004.

He has been credited as one of the most telling creative influences while at Maroon 5. Beyond the drums, he is equally an impressive percussionist and guitarist. His wealth of experience on Maroon 5 has come in handy as a producer who favors a unique flavor of alternative rock and funk music.
