She is of German, English and Irish ancestry. She had her high school education at George School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1960. She bagged her college degree from Bard College in New York.
Danner began her acting career on stage, appearing in several Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. She won a Theatre World Award for her performance in the Broadway play The Miser (1969). In 1970, she clinched the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her work in the play Butterflies Are Free (1969–72). The talented actress has since spread her tentacles to the world of television and movies, however, she has remained consistent in her stage work and earned 3 additional Tony Award nominations as well as 3 Drama Desk Award nominations ever since.
Blythe Danner recorded her first movie role in the 1972 drama film To Kill a Clown and ever since, she has featured in a countless number of other movies, especially in the comedy genre. She won the Saturn Award for Best Actress for her lead role in Futureworld (1976), followed by notable performances in other films like The Prince of Tides (1991), Husbands and Wives (1992) and The X-Files (1998).
