Bob Odenkirk was born on 22 October 1962 in Naperville, Illinois, USA. The actor who’s christened Robert John Odenkirk is of American Nationality and German, Irish and Scottish by Ethnicity. The renowned actor is one out of the seven children born to Walter Odenkirk, who was employed in the printing business and Barbara Odenkirk. The family is Catholic by religious inclination.

Odenkirk’s parents got divorced because of his father’s heavy drinking habit which made the young actor to hate alcohol with a passion. According to Odenkirk, he grew up hating his hometown Naperville because it felt like a dead end, like Nowheresville and it reminded him of his sad childhood. He said, “I couldn’t wait to get to a city and be with people who are doing an exciting thing”. Apparently, he felt that the city was stopping him from attaining greater heights.

His early education was at Naperville North High School followed by Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before he transferred to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.
The young actor first visited Chicago’s Second City Theater at the age of fourteen. His career in the entertainment industry started with a DJ job for WIDB, his college radio station. He created a late-night comedy program called The Prime Time Special.
Just before his graduation, he started working at improv workshops and performed stand-up comedy for many years. Along the line, he became friends with Robert Smigel who helped in his writing skills and he eventually became a writer for Saturday Night Live in 1987.

Odenkirk has played important roles in some critically acclaimed films. We have films like The Giant
Mechanical Man (2012), The Spectacular Now (2013) and Nebraska (2013) attached to his name. He also featured in a few comedy films like Take Me Home Tonight (2011), Dealing With Idiots (2013) and Hell & Back (2015)

Odenkirk’s hard work and dedication to work has earned him various prestigious awards and recognition. In 1989, the actor won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for Saturday Night Live and in 1993 he won the same award again but this time, for his work on The Ben Stiller Show.

Other awards include Independent Film Festival of Boston Award’s Audience Award, which he won for his directorial venture in Melvin Goes to Dinner, Avignon Film Festival Award for Best Feature and Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival Award.

Growing up with his family was not a rosy one because his father was an unrepentant alcoholic and this made the actor hate his childhood and everything associated with it. His father later died of bone cancer.
