This Canadian wrestler spent a huge chunk of his career in his home country before he signed with the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Bobby Roode had already hit veteran status in Canada before coming to the United States and joining WWE’s developmental territory NXT in 2016. Little wonder it took him little time to be called up to the promotion’s main roster where he quickly picked up his first major title in January 2018.

Before WWE, Bobby spent 12 years of his career with Impact Wrestling, culminating in 2016. He was the promotion’s World Tag Team Champion six times along with James Storm. Roode eventually faced off with Storm and defeated him to become the impact World Heavyweight Champion. For both the Tag Team and the Heavyweight Championships, Bobby Roode is the longest reigning wrestler in the wrestling promotion’s history. He did win other titles during his later years with impact wrestling.

Bobby Roode WWE (The Glorious) Bio

Robert Francis Roode Jr. was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, on May 11, 1977. Robert grew up with a love for the world of sports and played hockey in high school and college.

Roode spent a year under the tutelage of Canadian wrestling greats Sean Morley and Shane Sewell before he started appearing for different independent promotions in Canada. Bobby also appeared for the Puerto Rican promotion World Wrestling Council before signing to TNA Wrestling (also known as Impact Wrestling) in 2004.

In his early years with TNA, Bobby was the enforcer for the heel wrestling stable, Team Canada. His lead role in the group soon earned him the title – The Canadian Enforcer. They went on to fight the likes of Team USA at the World X-Cup in 2004 and had ongoing feuds with stables like America’s Most Wanted and 3Live Kru (which later added a fourth member to become 4Live Kru), winning and losing some against both groups.

The stable was eventually disbanded in July 2006 by TNA Management Director Jim Cornette after they lost an eight-man tag team match against Team 3D, Jay Lethal, and Rhino. Following the dissolution of the group, Roode started going by the name “Robert Roode” and picked Traci Brooks as his manager. Over time, he formed alliances with various wrestlers and stables. He also had drawn out feuds with Booker T, Kaz, Kevin Nash, and eventually, former allies Christian Cage and Eric Young.

His increasing misogynistic attitude towards Traci Brooks eventually saw them split ways, as he replaced her with Ms. Payton Banks, a woman that was known and referred to as his No.1 fan. This alliance also ended in 2008 when the wrestler started abusing her much like her predecessor.

In 2008, Roode and James Storm – who had teamed up to form the group Beer Money Inc. – won their first TNA World Tag Team Championship by defeating The Latin American Exchange. They successfully defended the title against the former holders on several occasions and against The Motor City Machine Guns, Matt Morgan, and Abyss. After they lost it to Jay Lethal and Creed on January 8, 2009, they regained it in a three-way match three days later. On April 19, 2009, they again lost the title to Team 3D but secured it again from them at the Slammiversary event in June before losing it again to Scott Steiner and Booker T.

The group did not see any other titles and continued to fight for the Tag Team Championship aligning with Ric Flair’s stable Team Flair and ‘s stable Immortal. They eventually got their hands on the title again on January 9, 2011.

On July 13, 2011, Beer Money officially became the longest reigning Tag Team Champions after they had surpassed the former record holders and Tomko. They continued to hold on to the title until an episode of Impact Wrestling on August 18 that saw them lose the title to Mexican America, effectively ending their 212-day reign.

On November 3, 2011, Bobby Roode triumphed over his former teammate James Storm; he won and became the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. He reigned for 256 days before losing the title to Austin Aries on July 8, 2012.

After making a few unsuccessful attempts to get back the title, he and Aries clinched the TNA World Tag Team Championship in a victory against Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez on January 25, 2013. They lost the title on April 11 to the duo.

On October 28, 2014, he secured the TNA World Heavyweight Championship for the second time in his career in a victory over Bobby Lashley. He lost it back to Lashley on January 7, 2015. On September 2, 2015, he won PJ Black to secure the TNA King of the Mountain Championship.

James Storm and Bobby Roode reunited to revive Beer money Inc., on January 5, 2016, and seven days later, Bobby lost his King of the Mountain title to his friend Eric Young. Beer Money would go on to win their fifth Tag Team Championship in a victory against The Wolves on March 8, 2016, before losing it to Decay in a Valley of Shadow match days later. On March 19, 2016, TNA announced that Bobby Roode would be leaving the promotion after 12 years of service.

Bobby debuted for NXT on June 11, 2016, where he defeated Angelo Dawkins. At NXT Take Over: Orlando, Bobby Roode won to become NXT Champion on January 28, 2017. He eventually lost the title to Drew McIntyre on August 19 and fought his farewell match from NXT on September 9, 2017.
