Bokeem Woodbine Bio

He was born on April 13, 1973, in Harlem New York. Bokeem’s mother, an actress, became a strong inspiration to her son who would eventually toe her line of business. He attended Dalton School in Manhattan and later transferred to the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts where his acting skills were sharpened.

Bokeem Woodbine made his acting debut in the 1992 movie Juice directed by Ernest Dickerson. The movie which starred Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps drew a lot of attention towards the actor and he started getting more and more roles. In 1993, he starred in Love Off Limits. Woodbine was remarkable in the CBS Schoolbreak Special and caught the attention of Jaki Brown-Karman who called the attention of director to the talented lad.

Whitaker subsequently cast him in the movie Strapped, also in 1993. His appearance in the movie shot him to popularity and he started to work with notable filmmakers like Mario Van Peebles, Spike Lee and many others. In 1994, he starred in Spike Lee’s Crooklyn. The following year, he played a role in Mario Van Peebles’ Panther and also starred in the Hughes Brothers’ Dead Presidents.

After starring in some movies with , Woodbine’s friendship with the legendary musician continued over the years; the two did some musical collaborations and also co-starred in movies. He was in Tupac’s 1996 music video I Ain’t Mad at Cha. The two also co-starred in the movie Gridlock’d directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall. However, Tupac did not live to see the release of the movie.

Woodbine earned a nomination for the NAACP Image Award for  Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the medical drama series City of Angels. He appeared in Ray (2004) as David Fathead’ Newman, a saxophonist. The movie is a biopic which told the story of Ray Charles the legendary musician. Woodbine went on to appear in a host of films as well as TV series. He starred in two episodes of Blade: The Series. He also appeared in the musical drama, A Day in the Life which also starred .

He starred in Black Dynamite in 2009 and in the following year, starred in the thriller Devil. He was cast in Marvel studio’s Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) as one of the four villains. In 2018, he played the role of Officer Daryn Dupree in the series, Unsolved.

Not much is known about the father of the actor also known as Bo. But as mentioned earlier, facts have it that his mother, who is also an actress, influenced his decision to become an actor himself. After Bo’s father and mother got divorced, they went their separate ways and the actor stayed with his mother.
