Brad Marchand is an ice hockey player who plays for the Canadian hockey team as well as in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a left wing for the Boston Bruins since making his debut in 2006. He has played for his country at the Under 17 level before going on to represent them on the big stage of Hockey World Cup, achieving a lot in the process.

Brad Marchand’s Biography

The hockey player was born and named Bradley Kevin Marchand on May 11, 1988, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Since he was a little kid, Brad has been playing the sport that he would come to be known for with his father Kevin Marchand who also served as his coach.

The entire story of Marchand has been lost in his love of the hockey, the sport that he has played for the most part of his life. As a child, he played minor hockey in the Nova Scotia area before later proceeding to play in the QMJHL for up to four seasons. If not for hockey, Brad said he would have ended up as a police officer.

NHL Career

Marchand made it to the National Hockey League in 2006 after he was selected in that year’s draft by the Boston Bruins as the 71st overall pick. However, it was until 2009 that he got to make his debut against the Nashville Predators. He netted his first goal in a game against Jhonas Enroth in November 2009. From then on, he has gone to become a very important player for his team.

In his first full year with the team which was the 2010-2011 season, Brad recorded 21 goals. In the same season, he was voted Bruins’ 7th Player Award by the fans of the club. By the 2018-2019 when he had played 630 games in total in the NHL, Brad had already recorded 233 goals and have provided the assist for 250 goals.

Apart from how good he plays and his style which can easily be described as dirty, he has become popular for his on-ice affection that involves kissing and sometimes licking the necks and faces of other players to a point that he was warned by the NHL administration.

On the national front, Brad Marchand represented Canada in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, helping his team to win the gold medal and emerging as the top scorer in the tournament. Before then, he played for his national youth team at the 2007 and 2008 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships before going on to be a part of the 2016 IIHF World Championships. Interestingly enough, Brad returned from all the assignments with gold medals. The only time he got a bronze was at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2005.

Brad also has three siblings, a brother Jef Marchand and two sisters, Melissa Marchand and Rebecca Marchand.

The hockey player is a married man. He tied the knot with his girlfriend, Katrina Sloane in 2015. Although there is no report on how the two met, it has been revealed that Katrina has a son whose name is Sloan from a previous relationship which her husband has now adopted as his son. As a couple, Brad and Katrina have been blessed with a child together, who was born in the summer of 2017.
