Born as Bradley Kent Stevens on October 22, 1976, Stevens is American by nationality and white by his ethnicity. He grew up in Zionsville, Indiana where he had his basic education and developed a passion for basketball. According to his mother, Stevens started showing interest in Basketball games at the age of five. He would also join his father to watch Indiana Hoosiers games at Bloomington and when he began schooling at the Zionsville Community High School, he played for the school’s basketball team and recorded four consecutive wins in his time with the team. When he joined the DePauw University Stevens could not but prove how talented he is in the game playing all 101 DePauw games and earning four varsity letters. Alongside his BA degree in Economics,  Stevens left a remarkable record in the University as a three-time Academic All-America nominee student.

As a team captain, he averaged more than 8 points per game three of his four years. While at the University, Stevens went as far as training passionate young basketball players at Butler basketball camps. He even joined a couple of clubs and association such as the DePauw Community Services’ Sports Night executive board. In fact, it was at the end of his senior years in the University that he gained the Coaches’ Award. In 2000, he volunteered to work with the Butler basketball office and was promoted to the post of the full-time assistant coach just two years after. Under his new rank, he made it as the third-youngest NCAA Division I coach to guide his team to a  total of 30 wins. He also recorded the highest wins in a coach’s first three years history title.

On April 2, 2007, Stevens moved from assistant coach to head coach and became the second youngest coach in Division I basketball. Despite his 12-year contract extension with the Butlers, he was signed as the head coach of the Boston Celtics on July 3, 2013. He was named the Eastern Conference head coach for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, which makes him the sixth Celtics coach to earn the honor.

Prior to his contract with the Boston Celtics of the NBA in 20013, Brad Stevens confirmed that he would be receiving over a million dollars per year by the Buttler’s club but he preferred to work for NBA and he successfully signed a $22 million dollar deal with the Boston Celtics. Before his signature with the Boston Celtics, rumor had it that the UCLA Bruins men’s basketball offered him about $3 million a year to leave Butler but he refused.
