The American television journalist is best known for his contribution to NBC Nightly News. The famous journalist was born Brian Douglas Williams on May 5, 1959, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, U.S.A. He lived in Elmira, New York, for the first 9 years of his life and later lived in Middletown, New Jersey; he was raised a Roman Catholic.

Brian Williams attended Mater Dei High School in Middletown which is a Roman Catholic school. While at Mater Dei, he edited the school’s newspaper. During that period, he also volunteered as a firefighter at the Middletown Township Fire department. Brian eventually graduated from the school and moved on to Brookdale Community College. But this was short-lived as he transferred to the Catholic University of America and later, the George Washington University.

He did not complete his university degree pursuit – a decision he regrets. After dropping out of university, he took an internship at the White House under the administration of ex U. S. president, .

His early work in broadcasting started at KOAM- TV in Pittsburg, Kansas. His first job at NBC was as anchor of the National Weekend Nightly News. From there, he got promoted to anchor of the NBC Nightly News. He has received 12 Emmy nominations for the program and some other notable awards.

Williams enjoyed respect for his input at NBC till his 2003 Iraq War report scandal surfaced. In that report, Williams claimed that a rocket-propelled grenade hit the helicopter that he and some U.S. soldiers were inside which caused the plane to land. He went on for years with the story until 2015 when it was discovered that the Emmy Award winner had falsified the reports. It was revealed that he was not in the said plane, but was in a plane behind it.

It was also revealed that though the plane he was in was also forced to land, it was due to small firearms fired at the plane and not an RPG. NBC witnessed its ratings drop due to the controversy. The network had Williams suspended without pay for 6 months. In September 2015, he returned to MSNBC as the Chief anchor of Breaking News, much to the disgust of many.

This journalist has been married since 1986. He married Jane Gillan Stoddard in First Presbyterian Church, New Canaan, Connecticut. Jane is a freelance television producer, and broadcaster. She is the executive producer of the radio show, Bloomberg Ed.

They have a daughter, Allison Howell Williams who was born on April 13, 1988. She is a movie and TV actress, a singer, as well as a comedian. Allison featured on the HBO hit series, Girls and the 2017 movie, Get Out. Allison got engaged to the co-founder of CollegeHumor, Ricky Van Veen in 2014. The couple tied the knot in 2015 and lives together in Chelsea, New York.
