Nicknamed “Windy”, Brian started his high school education at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, in Akron, which is also the same learning institution that groomed American NBA player, . The ESPN staff is a product of Kent State University, where he studied journalism. He graduated in the year 2000 with a degree in journalism and started covering LeBron’s high school basketball career shortly afterward. Three years later, precisely in 2003, Brian began working for Akron Beacon Journal, covering the Cleveland Cavaliers as well as James’ drafting in the NBA.

At the time, he was the youngest traveling NBA beat, writer. He ended his stint with the journal in the summer of 2008 and was later hired to work for Cleveland newspaper The Plain Dealer in October of the same year. To his credit, Brian Windhorst has co-authored three books titled: ‘Return of the King: LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Greatest Comeback in NBA History’, ‘The Franchise: LeBron James and the Remaking of the Cleveland Cavaliers’, and ‘LeBron James: The Making of an MVP. Cleveland’. The first publication was released in 2017 and was co-written with writers McMenamin and David while the last two were produced in 2007 and 2009 and were co-written with sports columnist Terry Pluto. In 2009, the Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association for Best Game Story honored one of Windhorst’s notable works at The Plain Dealer newspaper.

The NBA sports columnist is the husband of Omaha-born lawyer Maureen Ellen Fulton. The couple reportedly got married in 2012 in a lavished outdoor ceremony at Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha.
