Back in the 1990s, American actress, Brittany Daniel, gained prominence among TV audiences as a teen star on the syndicated comedy-drama series Sweet Valley High in which she played the main role of Jessica Wakefield. Over the years, the talented actress has cut her teeth in the comedy genre, having recorded several of such roles both on the big and small screens. More recently, she had a regular role in the 9-season long comedy-drama series The Game.
Brittany Daniel’s Biography
Brittany Ann Daniel was born on March 17, 1976, in Gainesville, Florida to Carolyn and Charlton Bradford Daniel. She has a twin sister Cynthia and an older brother named Brad Raylius Daniel. Brittany had a very active childhood alongside her twin sister and among other activities, they began modelling at a young age. They got signed to international modelling agency Ford Models at age 11 and among other highlights of their career, the twins featured on teen magazines Seventeen, YM and Sassy. They equally featured in an ad campaign for bubble gum brand Doublemint. They started acting in 1989, marking their debut with a guest appearance in the sitcom The New Leave It to Beaver. In 1992, Brittany landed a regular role as Mila Rosnovsky alongside in the short-lived teen drama series Swans Crossing. The role earned her a nomination for Best Young Actress at the 1993 Young Artist Award.
Daniel’s acting breakthrough came in the year 1994 when she was cast as the lead star of the comedy-drama series Sweet Valley High alongside her sister Cynthia. Brittany starred as Jessica “Jess” Wakefield opposite her sister’s character Elizabeth “Liz” Wakefield during the highly successful 4-year stint of the series and for their brilliant performance, the duo won the 1995 Young Artist Award for Best Performance: Young Actress in a TV Comedy Series. During Sweet Valley High’s run, Brittany Daniel landed her first big screen role in the coming-of-age drama film The Basketball Diaries which also starred . In 1999, she had a recurring role in season 3 of the teen drama series Dawson’s Creek and also appeared in the action film Sonic Impact. This was followed by roles in the telefilms Fortunate Son (2000) and On Hostile Ground (2000) as well as the co-lead in the adventure comedy Joe Dirt (2001).
While her movie career continued to soar, Brittany Daniel landed a spot on the main cast of the short-lived sitcom That ’80s Show (2002) where she played the main role of Sophia. She equally appeared in White Chicks (2004), Club Dread (2004), Little Man (2006), Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders (2006) among several others. Her White Chicks performance earned her an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Kiss alongside . The talented actress was cast as Kelly Pitts in the comedy-drama series The Game and she starred in all but 2 of the total 9 seasons of the show which spanned from 2006 to 2015. Daniel recorded further movie credits in Loveless in Los Angeles (2007), Skyline (2010) and she reprised her role in the Joe Dirt sequel Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser (2015).
Family, Twin- Cynthia Daniel
Brittany Daniel was born 5 minutes earlier than her twin sister Cynthia Daniel. Expectedly, the duo did virtually everything together while growing up; gymnastics, modelling, acting and eventually, they shot into the limelight with their breakout roles in Sweet Valley High. However, after recording a few other acting credits, Cynthia toed a different career path outside of Hollywood. She retired from acting in 1997 to become a photographer. She currently has 3 children with film and TV actor Cole Hauser, her husband since 2006.
Brittany Daniel’s father Charlton Bradford Daniel passed on in 2008 after a long battle with cancer. The actress herself was diagnosed with stage IV non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011. Thankfully, she was declared cancer-free in 2014 after undergoing chemotherapy. She collaborated with her sister Cynthia on a lifestyle blog ‘The Sweet Life’ which they launched in July 2017.
