The gallant 6ft 2inch Bruce Jenner was born in Mount Kisco, New York City on October 28, 1949 with the birth name Bruce Williams Jenner to parents – William Hugh Jenner and Esther Ruth Jenner. He has two sisters Lisa and Pam and a brother Burt whom they lost in 1976 to a car accident. Jenner spent his childhood days in New York and went to Sleepy Hollow High School where he did his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Newton High in Connecticut to complete his junior and senior years. Upon graduation in 1968, he earned a football scholarship which made him attend Graceland College in Iowa from which he graduated in 1973 with a degree in Physical Education.

 

Jenner’s interest in track and field events came as a suggestion from his coach back in his college days who advised him to make the switch after he suffered a knee injury that affected his performance as a footballer. His first competition was in 1970 when he participated in the decathlon during a relay race in Iowa in which he emerged at 5th position. The Olympian continued breaking records in most of his races and in 1974, he took first place in the men’s decathlon events and was on the cover of Track & Field News magazine. In 1975, he won a gold medal at the Pan Amerian Games and broke a record set by the athlete Avilov at the triangular games in Eugene that had participants from U.S.S, U.S.S.R and Poland. His Olympic career came to an end after the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal where he set a new record for the decathlon games but officially gave a statement after the games and his victories that he won’t be coming back to the track, that was why he gave his best to all the events he participated in.

The retired athlete ventured into television shows in the 1980’s, some of which were disasters like the comedy Can’t Stop the Music. Jenner was also featured in the film The Golden Moment: An Olympic Love Story and Grambling White Tiger. He made a guest appearance on the police sitcom Chips and he was in video games videos like Olympic Decathlon and Bruce Jenner’s world-class decathlon. His most popular TV appearance was in the show Keeping Up With The Kardashians which was produced by his ex-wife Kri Jenner.
