Bruno Mars was born; Peter Gene Hernandez on the 8th of October 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mars who is popular for his impeccable voice texture has over 130 million records sold, a Guinness World Record to his name and a number of Grammy awards and nominations.

Bio

Born into a music-oriented family, Bruno Mars has always been exposed to good music which greatly influenced his chosen career path and also helped him harness as well as improve his inherent musical talent. Bruno Mars started singing and performing at a very early age; mimicking the likes of the legendary Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Prince. He has further gone on to sell out huge concerts at ginormous arenas all around the world.

 

In 2009, Bruno Mars and a couple of his friends; Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine started a songwriting and record producing group called The Smeezingtons. Before they were disbanded, the group was known to be a highly talented team which produced and co-wrote hit songs like; B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire”. Bruno Mars’ vocals were utilized in both songs and his appearance on both songs brought him a level of prominence and fame.

Atlantic And Elektra Records

Spurred by the success of both songs, Bruno released an EP titled It’s Better If You Don’t Understand as well as his debut studio album titled Doo-Wops & Hooligans in 2010 under Atlantic and Elektra record labels. It comprised of hits like “Treasure”, “When I Was Your Man” and “Locked out of Heaven” which was number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks straight.

The Unorthodox Jukebox album sold 192,000 copies in the first week of its release, it did well in Europe and Australia and went on to win the Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2014. Bruno waited almost 4 years before he dropped his third studio album on the 7th of October 2016 titled 24k Magic which had hit singles like “24 Magic” and “That’s What I Like”. However, he was featured on British record producer Mark Ronson’s double Grammy Award-winning hit-single titled “Uptown Funk” before 24k Magic was released.

Bruno Mars has complex family roots. His father, Peter Hernandez, is a Jewish-Puerto Rican-American while his mother, Bernadette San Pedro Bayot is Spanish-Filipino. Bruno’s parents met in a show where his father, Peter was a percussionist and his mother, Bernadette a hula dancer.

Although Peter and Bernadette were quite active performers, they never attained the same level of fame and prominence that their son has come to enjoy. The couple has 6 children including Bruno Mars and raised them all with a predilection for music. As a matter of fact, they had a family band and performed in shows together.

The name Bruno was given to him by his dad because of his resemblance to Bruno Sammartino; a wrestler in the 60’s. He decided to change his name from Peter Gene Hernandez to Bruno Mars because he was told he would be best suited for Latino music due to his looks and Latino-sounding family name, Hernandez.
