Burnie Burns is an American scriptwriter, actor, filmmaker, comedian and host. The Texas-born multi-talented and co-founder of Rooster Teeth is of French and Canadian descent. He is Rooster Teeth’s chief creative officer but he is best known for his work on Red vs Blue series.

Burnie Burns Biography (Age)

Burns was born as Michael Justin Burnie on January 18, 1973, in Rochester, New York to a physicist father. After Burns was born, his family moved to Texas, where he spent his childhood and also schooled there. His nickname Burnie was given to him by a senior in his high school days at Alief Elsik high school, as a way of identifying him amongst his other classmates who also bear his first name, Michael. While in High school, Burns wanted to become a physician, he spent most of his time in his senior years at Southwest Memorial Hospital learning basic medical practices.

After high school, he enrolled to study at Notre Dame and got accepted but could not attend because his family could not afford to pay his tuition. This led Burns to settle for the University of Texas. At the end of his program at the university, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

His interest in filming developed while he was in college. He joined Texas Student Television (TSTV) in college. While with TSTV, he created a show titled Sneak Peek. The show turned out to be the longest running show created by a student. In one of the episodes of the show, he featured star actor .

In his final year in college, Burns was filled with the determination to produce a film. He and his roommates Matt Hullum and Joel Heyman started the production of a film titled The Schedule. The film was shot over three months in 1997 with a budget of $9000. The trio received an offer of $25,000 to sell the film but they turned it down because they didn’t want to change the storyline. They found it difficult to distribute the film and also monetize it. They got agitated as they couldn’t properly distribute it. After they graduated from the university, the three friends separated. Matt Hullum and Joel Heyman moved to Los Angeles while Burns took up a position at a local tech support company.

In 2012, Burns came up with a trailer for Red vs Blue. The series had lots of production issues and as a result of the troubles, it failed to make the screen. The events he passed through producing the series made him establish his own company called “Rooster Teeth” with the help of some of his colleagues. Under his newly found company, he released the first episode of the series and it aired in 2003.

The series which was initially intended to last for just one season gained so much attention and popularity on the internet and has continued to air till today. In subsequent years, they partnered with several gaming companies to help promote games.

In 2005, Burns and his colleagues came up with another series titled The Strangerhood, partnering with Electronic Arts, as a way of promoting the publishing company’s new game The Sims 2.

They soon  created another series titled P.A.N.I.C. The series which was released in 2006 had five episodes and was used as a promotion symbol for the game F.E.A.R.

 

Burns continued to produce subsequent series which helped promote other games. Like in 2012, Burns produced a documentary titled MineCraft: The Story of Mohang. The documentary told of the company which produced the popular game MineCraft.

In 2015, he featured in the 28th season of The Amazing Race where he competed against his fiancée Ashley Jenkins and he finished in fourth place.

Burnie Burns committed to marriage for the first time with Jordan Burns in 2000. The pair ended their over one-decade marriage in 2011. In the process of their marriage, the couple had two kids together, JD and Teddy Burns.

Burnie Burns is engaged to his girlfriend American host Ashley Jenkins. Ashley Jenkins was born on May 3, 1982, in Ogden, Utah. She is an on-camera host and co-founder of Frag Dolls, a fraction of UniSoft’s gaming group. She also founded The Know, a subsidiary of her fiancé’s company Rooster Teeth.

The pair started dating when Ashley joined Burns company Rooster Teeth. They were rivals in season 28 of The Amazing Race back in 2015. In 2016, Burns popped the question and Ashley said yes, and since then the couple have remained engaged. Currently, Burn’s family consist of his two kids, JD and Theodore Burns, and his fiancée Ashley Jenkins.
