That said, the Colombian prolific goal scorer was born on September 8, 1986, in Puerto Colombia, Colombia to Gilberto Bacca and Eloisa Ahumada. In a bid to help his family, he worked as a bus driver’s assistant, sold bus tickets and also worked part-time as a fisherman to make ends meet while he played football. A skillful and determined striker, with an eye for the goal, Carlos is a married man and a father as well. He is the husband of Shayira Santiago and father to their two children, a son Carlos Daniel Bacca, and a daughter Karla Valentina Bacca. He is of mixed ethnicity and has Spanish ancestry.

His Professional Career

His professional career kicked off with the Colombian club, Atletico Junior in 2006. As is usually the case, the hope of every player is to make appearances and prove their talents and skills in the game, thus, opportunities for such is mostly welcomed. Carlos could not get many chances to play in his parent club and was loaned to Barranquilla FC in 2007 where he made 27 appearances and scored 12 goals. He thus sealed his fate as a top-notch goal scorer. Following his rising, he was loaned out a second time to Venezuelan club Minervén for a season. Therein, he led them into the second place in the league and scored a dozen goals in 29 games before his move to Barranquilla a second time.

He maintained his scoring streak and eventually became the league top scorer with 14 goals in 19 games. Wow! On his return to Atletico Junior, he became the top scorer in the 2009 Copa Colombia as a regular first-team player. Furthermore, Carlos became the winner and top goalscorer of the Categoría Primera A for two consecutive years which gave the club their sixth and seventh Colombian titles.

With a long time dream to play for a European club, Carlos eventually secured a contract with the Belgian club, Club Brugge in signing a three-year deal for 1.5 million pounds in early 2012. He continued with his goal scoring streak therein although he faced some struggles before he could break through. In the 2012-2013 season, he finished as the league’s top scorer and was named the Player of the Year in Belgium. After he has stayed his course in Brugge, he finished off his career with them on a record of 28 goals in 45 league appearances.

His next tent was the Spanish club Sevilla who signed him for a contract fee of €7 million on a five-year contract with a €30 million buy-out release clause on July 9, 2013. He helped the club qualify for the 2015-2016 Champions League following his seven European goals which also helped them retain their Europa League crown.

Carlos’ buyout clause of €30 million was activated by the Serie A club, Milan culminating in a deal in July 2015. Two years later, in August 2017, he was loaned on a one-year deal to the Spanish club, Villarreal for a fee of €2.5 million.

He made his debut in his senior national team in 2010 and made his international debut in 2012. He was among the 23-man squad that represented his nation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Also, he made the 23-man squad list for the 2015 Copa América and scored the winning goal that placed Colombia third in the match of the Copa América Centenario. Carlos Bacca was also named among his national team’s preliminary 35 man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
