Carol Burnett – Bio

On the 26th of April 1933, Carol Burnett was born in San Antonio, Texas, United States. She is the daughter of Ina Louise (mother) – a publicity writer and Joseph Thomas Burnett (father) – a movie theatre manager. With parents who were both plagued with alcoholism, Carol’s childhood was nothing short of traumatic, though she found some kind of solace living with her grandmother after her parent’s legal separation. Graduating from Hollywood High School in 1951, she joined the University of California LA for a journalism course. However, she had a change of mind after her freshman year as she made a switch to Theatre Arts and English.

On the long run, Carol was so smitten by the performing arts that she made the decision to pursue acting as a career. She was so busy performing on several college productions, as well as theatre groups, and she discovered her natural musical abilities and comic timing with each performance. Then came a twist of fate in the form of a $1000 interest-free loan from a patron who was so impressed by the skills she exhibited at a professor’s private party in her senior year. A glorious future beckoned as Carol Burnett put the loan to good use with moving to New York and joining the showbiz circle being her top priority.
