Below are facts you need to know about the actress, especially why her success dwindled after Matrix.
Carrie-Anne Moss Biography
Carrie-Anne Moss is a Canadian actress, born on August 21, 1967, in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Her parents are Melvyn Moss and Barbara Moss. Her mother named her after a song titled Carrie-Anne, a 1967 hit song by the British rock band, The Hollies. Carrie-Anne is not the only child of her parents, she was raised alongside her elder brother, Brooke Moss. At the early stage of her life, she lived in Vancouver with her mother and joined the Vancouver children’s musical theatre when she was 11. In her 12th grade at Magee Secondary School, Moss toured Europe as a member of the Magee Secondary School choir.
After high school, Moss started doing modelling jobs so she could save up and apply for acting classes. She modelled in Spain for a year and later moved to Japan, where she worked as a model for four months. During her time in Barcelona, she featured in several TV commercials and auditioned for a role on CBS series Dark Justice, which was still filming there at the time. She got the role and starred as Tara McDonald in the television series in 1991. When the show returned to Los Angeles for a new season in 1992, Moss went along with the show to the City of Angels. From 1991 to 1993, Moss was cast in 9 episodes of her debut television series, Dark Justice.
In the early 1990s, Moss was already becoming a fast-rising actress, in 1991, she starred as a guest actress in two episodes of Street Justice as Jennifer and in 1992, in an episode of Forever Knight as Monica Howard. In 1993, she got her first main role when she was cast as Liz Teel in all 13 episodes of the Canadian fantasy/adventure series, Matrix. Her breakthrough in Hollywood came when she was featured in all 28 episodes of Model Inc. as Carrie Spencer, between 1994 and 1995.
Going into the late 1990s, Moss secured a recurring role in Canadian TV series F/X: The Series, as Lucinda Scott. It was the last TV series she starred in the 1990s but she was cast in films like Sabotage, Lethal Tender, The Secret Life Algernon, New Blood, and others.
In 1999, she had what is arguably the biggest role in her acting career, when she was cast as Trinity in the first installment of The Matrix trilogy, titled The Matrix. The film’s second installment, The Matrix Reloaded premiered on May 7, 2003, with Moss reprising her role as Trinity. The film’s third and final installment, The Matrix Revolution was released six months after The Matrix Reloaded was released.
From 2012 to 2013, Moss portrayed the main role as Katherine O’Connell in all 21 episodes of the short-lived American television series Vegas. In Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Moss is being cast as Jeri Hogarth, a role she also played in an episode of Marvel’s Daredevil, as well as in The Defenders and in three episodes of Iron Fist. She is also playing the main role in the science fiction television series Humans as Dr Athena Morrow.
Net Worth
Ever since Moss was a young girl, all she dreamt of was becoming an actress and she is currently fulfilling her dreams and making money out of it as well. Her net worth is estimated at $4million.
Why Wasn’t She So Successful After The Matrix?
As at the time the first installment of The Matrix trilogy was released, Moss was in her early 30s. At the release of the last installment, she was in her mid-30s, and there were very little chances of her featuring as the hot, sexy leading actress in action films like The Matrix trilogy, as filmmakers rather chose to go for the younger and fresh actresses. Age was definitely one of the factors that hindered her from achieving more success after The Matrix.
Her Family
Carrie-Anne Moss currently resides in Los Angeles, California and is married to Steven Roy. The couple has been married for close to two decades now, having gotten married on November 11, 1999.
