Carter Oosterhouse Biography

Carter was born in  Traverse City, in the state of Michigan on the 19th of September 1976 to Mary Lopez and Roland Oosterhouse. He is of mixed ethnicity; his mom is Mexican and his dad Dytch. Growing up in Michigan, Carter learned the art of Carpentry from a neighbor who was a carpenter while studying at the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools. With the help of his older brothers Todd and Tyler, who were also carpenters, Carter continued to practice.

After high school, he proceeded to Central Michigan University where he bagged a degree in Nutrition and Communication. After his college degree, Carter Oosterhouse moved over to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television and film. Soon after he arrived in Los Angeles, he got a job as a production assistant and tape coordinator, working behind the scenes for the Project Greenlight.

He worked for Project Greenlight for a while before his television career took off in earnest. Carter got his first acting role after auditioning for TLC series, Trading Spaces. He went on to appear in the fourth season of the show in 2003. After that, he also featured in its sequels, Trading Spaces: Family and Trading Spaces: Boys V. Girls, later in the same year. His wonderful performance in the series cemented his interest in running a TV show.

The following year, he starred in an episode of CBS’ Sunday Morning in New York and later followed it up with an appearance in the NBC reality TV series, Three Wishes in 2005. During the course of the show, Carter visited a number of small towns across the U.S., acting as some sort of Gini who helped in granting people’s wishes. In 2007, Carter started running his own TV shows. He first started a home improvement show, Carter Can which aired on HGTV. Later on, The Inside Job which aired on  DIY Network followed. The talented media star yet again introduced another show on HGTV called Red Hot & Green in 2008; a show which he co-hosted alongside Nicole Facciuto.

Asides from his shows, Carter Oosterhouse has been featured as an expert on other notable TV shows including The , The CBS Early Show, The Today Show, Entertainment Tonight and Extra, Rachael Ray, The View, etc. Since 2015, he has been hosting the ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” alongside Taniya Nayak.

Oosterhouse is also a well-known model who has been the face for print campaigns as well as for TV Commercials for several notable names like Lake Michigan Credit Union, Nivea, Bud Light, Gillette’s M3Power razor, among others. He is also the face of men’s fragrance Voyage by Nautica. Carter is married to actress, The couple met in 2010 at a green-charity event through a mutual acquaintance. The following year, the couple walked down the aisle and their wedding took place at Traverse City, Michigan. The ceremony saw over 200 guests including family and friends in attendance. Carter and his wife welcomed their first child, a daughter named Flora in December 2016 through surrogacy.
