When she was a young girl, Cecily Tynan told her father she wanted to become a TV journalist. He told her she wouldn’t want to do that because it was something very competitive and in response, she told him she was going to be one of “those people”.

Many years later, Cecily has grown into a face that hardly can one who follows the broadcast media miss as she has been a TV reporter since 1995. A very experienced meteorologist, she has developed into a major force in the broadcast industry doing everything from news anchoring to weather forecasting, and much more. Although unlike many others she has not worked with too many other stations or networks apart from WPVI-TV and ABCNEWS, she has still earned her place in the scheme of things.

It was as Cecily Joan Tynan that the news reporter was born in Newtown, Connecticut, U.S. on March 19, 1969.

The moment she began walking as a child, it was discovered that something was wrong – she was born with a congenital hip defect. Because of this, she was made to do ballet as she grew as doctors believed it was going to help her in regaining form.

Her journey into becoming a reporter did not start when she was very young. In fact, it was when she was 17, on January 28, 1986, that it all began. On that day, the world watched as the NASA shuttle orbiter mission STS-51-L went into flames 73 seconds after it began its flight. She, like many others, saw how Dan Rather explained what happened. While looking at Dan do his job, it immediately hit her that he was doing a very important job and she then decided she would also want to contribute in the same way as the Veteran CBS man was doing.

In pursuance of her dream, she went to Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where she majored in both politics and Journalism.

During her internship, there were many who considered Tynan as a prodigy. However, she almost lost her way as she got comfortable taking the easy way, choosing to focus on things like festivities. The wakeup call came when she was looked over by Jim Kent who was her news director when an opening came for a business reporter and she showed interest. He told her she showed no spark that would warrant him to give her the position.

Thanks to this, Cecily Tynan was forced to have a rethink and she discovered her passion; meteorology. In 1995, an opening came for Weeknight Meteorologist at WPVI-TV and she applied and got the job. From then on, she has continued to develop herself into one of the best in the field.

In 2012, Cecily Tynan became an inductee into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame. This shows that she has come a long way in her chosen profession. While her salary has been left to speculations, her net worth has been estimated at $2 million.

A very beautiful and talented woman, Cecily Tynan has been married twice thus far, The first man to become her husband was a school teacher whose name is Michael Badger. Although it is not known when the two tied the knot, the marriage came to an end in 2014.

After the divorce, she tied the knot with Greg Watson and it is with him that she has her two kids, Emma and Luke.

Because of her early exposure to ballet due to her childhood defect, she came to love ballet and had even wanted to become a ballerina. However, her parents didn’t want her to do it professionally. 2. Cecily Tynan is a lover of sports

When her ballet company went to Russia, she participated in a track and field event and she fell in love with it. Tynan decided to part ways with ballet and settle as a runner, something she continued doing until she had an injury in 2014.
