The breakup between Pete Davidson and Arianna Grande came as a huge surprise for many of us who believed the two had found their better halves in each other. They began dating in a whirlwind in 2018 after Grande quit her relationship with long term boyfriend Mac Miller and Pete ended his with Cazzie David. They went on a crazy tattoo spree inking themselves with each other’s name. By June, they announced that they were engaged. They started living together and got a pig. It was like a Disney movie before everyone’s eyes. Unfortunately, just as it began in a whirlwind, so also did it end not too long after the engagement. The end of the engagement suddenly takes us back to the many celebrities couples once engaged, that we have even forgotten.

1. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck

After her failed marriage to Chris Judd in 2001, Jenifer Lopez began dating Ben Affleck when they met on the set of the movie ‘Gigli’. By 2002, the two were engaged with a plan to get married in September 2003. But then, they put off their marriage indefinitely just four days to the wedding.

They both said that excessive media interference was the reason for calling off the wedding. In January 2004, they announced that they had broken off the engagement. In the same year, Lopez went on to marry Marc Anthony whom she separated from in 2014 after 10 years of marriage while Ben married actress Jenifer Garner in 2005 and they divorced in 2015.

2. Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow

Brad Pitt is famous for his movies, his looks, and his marriages to Jenifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. However, many seem to have forgotten that he was once engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow and Pitt met when they were shooting the 1995 movie ‘Seven’. They were in a relationship from 1994 to 1997 and they were considered as one of the biggest couples in Hollywood in the 90s. They were so big that it was alleged that the song “That Don’t Impress Me Much” by Shania Twain was inspired by them.

Two years into the relationship, Brad Pitt proposed to Paltrow in 1996. In 1997, Paltrow called off the engagement as she felt she was too young to get married which was understandable as she was 24 at that time and 10 years younger than Brad. While Brad pit would go on to marry Aniston and then Jolie, Paltrow went on to marry Chris Martin of Coldplay for 10 years before marrying Brad Falchuk in 2018.

3. Paris Hilton and Paris Latsis

While is popular for her extravagant and socialite lifestyle, most people seem to have forgotten that she was once engaged to a shipping magnate from Greece who goes by the name Paris Latsis.

She and the Greek Paris started dating in June 2004 and after 7 months of being in love, the Greek proposed to the American with 15 rings for her to choose from. It, however, didn’t last as the engagement was called off four months later.

4. Kerry Washington and David Moscow

Washington who is best known as Olivia Pope in the ABC drama ‘Scandal’ was engaged to David Moscow in 2004 after meeting in 2003.

In 2007, they decided to break off the engagement when Washington turned 30 and she said she wanted to re-evaluate her life as the relationship was not going well. Washington since then has kept her life off media scrutiny and is currently married to NFL star Nnamdi Asomugha while Moscow has since been married to Karen Riotoc.

5. Liev Schrieber and Naomi Watts

Naomi and Liev began dating when they met on the sets of the movie ‘The Painted Veil’ in 2006. As of 2010, Naomi told the media that Liev proposed to her and she said she had said yes to the San-Francisco born actor. They both claimed that although they were engaged, they were not going to rush into marriage.

In 2007, they had their first child named Pete, followed by the birth of a second son named Samuel Kai in 2008. In 2016, they announced that they had brought the 11-years relationship to an end. They remain good friends for the sake of their sons and there are some media speculations that they are more than friends and that they might be living together.

6. Selita Ebanks and Nick Cannon

Nick and Selita dated for 6 months before Nick asked her to marry him in Times Square in a glamorous manner in 2007. They were together for the next 5 months but decided to call the relationships quits in order to focus on individual careers.

Nick would later go on to marry in 2008 only a few months after his engagement to Ebanks and divorced her in 2016. Ebanks on the other hand dated Terrence Jenkins for a while before calling it quits.

7. Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp

We can’t leave these guys out of this list of celebrity couples once engaged. At the premiere of ‘Great Balls of Fire!’ in 1989, Depp saw who was then 17 for the first time and for him, it was love at first sight. They were later properly introduced by a mutual friend and it was after this that they began dating. He described the feeling of meeting her as the greatest feeling he had ever had in his 27 years. A year later, proposed to her and even got a ‘Winona Forever’ tattoo on his arm.

Sadly, the relationship didn’t last long as it ended after 3 years. Winona is in a relationship with Scot Mackinsley while Depp just got divorced from Amber Heard.

8. Charlize Theron and Sean Penn

Charlize had lived with long term boyfriend Stuart Townsend for over 9 years while Sean Penn was married to Madonna between 1985 to 1989 and Robin Wright between 1996 to 2010.

The two met in mid-2013 and began dating toward the end of the year. They announced their engagement in December 2014 but by June 2015, Theron called the engagement off. She told the news media that she cut it off because they were no longer what they were.

9. Iggy Azalea and Nick Young

In November 2013, Nick Young, a basketballer with the Los Angeles Lakers tweeted about Iggy Azalea being his #WCW which is a social media lingo for #WomanCrushWednesday and the whole internet was ecstatic about the prospect of them being a couple.

A few weeks later, the two were seen together and for months, there were speculations that they were dating. Later in April 2014, the couple confirmed that they were indeed dating and the relationship had indeed been going on for more than 8 months.

It was all love and glamour when Nick proposed to Iggy in front of her family and friends on June 1st which coincided with his 30th birthday. The ring he proposed with was specially made for her.

Plans began in earnest for a wedding but Iggy had to go on tour and so the wedding was shifted. However, around the month of March 2016, a video of Nick surfaced where he was discussing how he was cheating on Iggy with another woman who would turn out to be Keonna Green with whom Young had already had a child. At first, Iggy didn’t break the relationship but wedding plans were halted. In June 2016, a year after Young proposed to her, the rapper broke off the engagement.

10. Wladimir Klitschko and Hayden Panettiere

American actress, Hayden Panettiere began showing up at Klitscho’s fight since 2009. Soon after, she began to move closer to the ringside during bouts talking to the Ukrainian boxer and it was speculated that they were having an affair. They split up in 2011 and then in 2013, they confirmed that they were back together.

Klitschko proposed to Hayden in October 2013 and in December that same year, they visited Ukraine together where they addressed the Euromaidan demonstrations that took place in Kiev. The boxer spent $500,000 to get an engagement ring for Hayden in that same year. By December 2014, they welcomed a child together.

As of August 2018, the couple had split for a second time but they both claim that they were on good terms for the sake of their daughter.

 

11. Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna

While Rob is not the most popular Kardashian, his name carries some weight with the Reality TV family. He even became a bit more popular when he dated Blac Chyna. The whole relationship turned into a full-scale drama when Rob proposed to Blac Chyna three months after they started dating.

The relationship had so many topsy turvy moments as many members of the Kardashian clan were against the relationship. They had an on and off relationship until they had a child together called Renee. They resumed their on and off relationship until Rob posted graphic pictures of Blac Chyna online in February 2018. By then, everyone knew there was no coming back and that the wedding was off.

Since the split, Rob has been off the media and relatively low key while Blac Chyna has dated and broken up with Almighty Jay, an 18-year-old rapper and also Solja boy.
