Chael Sonnen’s Biography
American Gangster or the Peoples’ Champ as he is better known, was christened Chael Patrick Sonnen at birth on April 3, 1977. He was born to the family of Mr. Patrick and Claudia Sonnen in Milwaukie, Oregon, alongside his six brothers and a sister.
Chael schooled in West Linn high school where he kicked off his wrestling career as an amateur and soon became a state runner-up, after which he commenced better training in boxing with the hopes of making it to the UFC. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in sociology, but bagging a degree wasn’t enough to keep him away from his long-anticipated dream. His hopes of competing in the UFC was not dashed as he made his debut In UFC 55 on the 7th of October in the year 2005.
Chael Sonnen can be said to be a man of multiple talents. Though his main work is the Mixed Martial Arts, this American is also known as an actor, some of his movies include Here Comes the Boom (2012) and Grudge Match (2013). With the UFC, he has been a key part of events like UFC 56: Full Force, UFC 60: Hughes vs Gracie and the likes.
As an author, he co-authored the book The Four-Pack Revolution: How You Can Aim Lower, Cheat on Your Diet, and Still Lose Weight and Keep It Off in 2017. He is also known to be a politician having once run for the office of the Oregon House of Representatives as a Republican, only to drop out of the race later on.
May 2014 gave Chael Sonnen’s career one deadly blow as he was given a two-year suspension from mixed martial arts by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) for testing positive during a drug test on anastrozole and clomiphene, which was regarded as a banned substance by the commission. This, unfortunately, led to his retirement. Luck later smiled on him in November 2014 when he was hired by ESPN as an MMA analyst leading to his debut in the previewing of UFC 180. Later in 2015, Global Force Wrestling (a body that promotes professional wrestling) aired Chael as its analyst on future events. Charting a course in his broadcast career, he soon landed a position as a member of the world series of fighting broadcast team.
Chael has been estimated to have a net worth of $10 million. Though he has a degree in sociology, it is obvious he made his millions from something he is quite passionate and good at.
However, a part of his net worth also comes from his earnings as an actor, an author, and a media personality. He is also an authorized realtor in Oregon, but his love for MMA and skillfulness in wrestling kept him in the MMA field even after his retirement.
Wife – Britanny Smith, Daughter, and Son
Chael got married to his longtime girlfriend Britany Smith in July 2013; they welcomed their first child on June 4, 2015, and named him Thero. The birth of their second child proved to be a real tragedy as Brittany got infected with listeria which the baby Blauna had contracted. Details given by Chael showed that the doctors they went to initially did a wrong diagnosis and were treating Brittany for dehydration until he got fed up and took her to another hospital where the baby was delivered and tests indicated it was listeria. Baby Blauna passed away shortly after.
The experience was painful for the couple, but it didn’t stop them from making more babies as they were soon blessed with another beautiful baby girl they named Pria.
