Chandler Jones is a professional American football player who plays for the Arizona Cardinals in the defensive end position. As a first-round draftee, Jones went to the New England Patriots in the 2012 NFL Draft where he spent the first 4 seasons of his professional career. Having earned his first Pro Bowl in 2015, Chandler Jones was named to his second Pro Bowl in December 2017.

It was on 27th February and in the year 1990 that Chandler James Jones was born, his place of birth was in Rochester, New York. He schooled at Union-Endicott High School where as a three-sport athlete, he competed in football, basketball, and wrestling.

Among other highlights of his brilliant high school football career, Chandler Jones played in three successive Section 4 Championships. The talented youngster earned All-Northeast, All-East Region as well as first-team All-Metro selections in his senior year. Jones was also named to the All-State Class AA First Team for Defense.

One of the top prospects out of New York, Chandler Jones committed to Syracuse University in October 2007. After redshirting his freshman year due to medical reasons, he joined the active roster of the Syracuse Orange Football team in 2009. Jones made 12 appearances including 8 starts as a redshirt freshman and his performance earned him All-Big East Third Team and National All-Freshman Second Team designations.

The next season, Jones started in all 13 appearances and received All-Big East Second Team selection for his performance. Though he was limited to only 7 games in the junior season, the talented player earned All-Big East First Team honors. Chandler Jones declared for the 2012 NFL Draft in December 2011.

NFL Career

Jones was selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots as the 21st overall pick of the draft, the highest selection for a Syracuse player in a decade. In a stellar rookie season, Jones made 14 appearances (13 starts) and finished with 45 tackles, 6 sacks, 5 passes defended and 3 forced fumbles. He started in all 16 appearances in the 2013 season and produced 42 tackles with 11.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

In a brilliant 2014 season in which he won the Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots, Chandler Jones recorded 43 tackles and 6 sacks in 10 appearances. He featured in 15 games in 2015 recording 44 tackles, a team-leading 12.5 sacks as well as the first interception of his career, a performance for which he was named to his first Pro Bowl.

In March 2016, the New England Patriots traded Chandler Jones to the Arizona Cardinals in a swap deal for which they got Jonathan Cooper and a second-round 2016 draft pick. In his first (2016) season with the Cardinals, Jones started all 16 games and recorded 49 tackles, 11 sacks, three passes defended and four forced fumbles. He also started in all 16 appearances for 2017 and finished the season with 59 tackles, a league-leading 17.0 sacks and three passes defended. He earned his 2nd Pro Bowl selection as well as a First-team All-Pro selection in 2017.

Having played outside linebacker in his first 2 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Chandler Jones was moved to the defensive end position prior to the 2018 season.

His Brothers and Family

Chandler Jones’ father Arthur Jones Jr. is a New York-based clergyman. His mother Camille was a caregiver during her lifetime. She passed away in June 2017 due to complications from diabetes.

The youngest of his parents’ 4 children, Chandler Jones was raised alongside brothers Arthur and Jonathan and a sister named Carmen. Growing up, the family suffered a major tragedy following the passing of their only sister Carmen Jones. She died at age 17 after a protracted battle with brain cancer.

Undoubtedly a family of talented athletes, Chandler’s oldest brother Arthur Jones III played defensive end during his professional career in the NFL. His other brother Jonathan “Jon” Jones is a professional mixed martial artist and is reckoned as one of the best in the history of the sport.
