Although has been active as an actor since 2000, he got his first reputable role in movies when he appeared in the popular dance movie Step Up. 1. 21 Jump Street (2012)

On this 2012 action-comedy, Tatum teamed up with to play the lead characters of Greg Jenko and Morton Schmidt respectively. In the film, Greg and Schmidt are cops that are assigned an undercover mission by Captain Dickson () to investigate and stem the spread of a new synthetic drug. The mission sees them disguised as high school students.

This film is one of the most well-received Channing Tatum movies. It was made by MGM and Columbia Pictures on a budget of $54.7 million. It grossed a total of $201.5 at the box office. The movie was praised for its outlandish comedy. Channing and Hill were also nominated for an MTV Movie Award and Critic’s Choice Award. Tatum meanwhile, did bag himself a Teen Choice Award.

The movie was rated an average rating of 84 percent by Rotten Tomatoes’s critics and an audience score of 82 percent. It was also rated “B” by CinemaScore.

2. Logan Lucky (2017)

In this heist comedy movie, Channing Tatum plays the lead role of Jimmy Logan. Jimmy, together with his one-armed brother, hairstylist sister, and a convicted safecracker get together to plan and execute a big heist. They plan to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway where Jimmy has just been laid off from his job as a construction worker.

The movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh who came out of retirement for it. It was hailed for the unique direction in which Soderbergh took the film. Logan Lucky received an approval rating of 92 percent from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 75 percent audience approval rating. It also scored a “B” on Cinema Score and an 80 percent positive score on PostTrak. It grossed $48.5 million against a budget of $29 million.

3. Foxcatcher (2014)

This crime drama is based on a true story. A 1984 Olympic gold medalist wrestler, Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his brother David (Mark Ruffalo) are recruited by multi-millionaire wrestling fan John du Pont (). A series of events take place that eventually devolves to the point where Mark has to suffer through the death of his older brother David at the hands of du Pont.

The movie was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2014. Foxcatcher was a hit with moviegoers and critics alike. It was also nominated for a slew of awards, including 3 Golden Globe Awards and 5 Academy Awards.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a score of 7.89 out of a possible 10. It also scored above average with the audience with a 66 percent approval rating. However, for some reason, Foxcatcher could not break even; it grossed $19.2 million worldwide against a $24 million budget.

4. Hail, Caesar! (2016)

The idea for this Channing Tatum movie was birthed by the Coen brothers in 2004 and was initially supposed to be set in the 1920s. By the time it was made, it was rewritten to be set in the 1950s. Onset, Channing plays the character Burt Gurney, an actor and dancer under Eddie Mannix’s () employ.

The movie narrated the story of a lead cast member who disappeared while he was supposed to be filming a biblically inspired movie about Emperor Caesar. Hail, Caesar! was star-studded with the likes of , and among others. It was expectedly received well as evidenced by its 86 percent critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A budget of $22 million was expended on the making of the film resulting in a gross return of $63.6 million. However, it didn’t really do well for moviegoers. It only managed a 44 percent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a grade of “C–” on Cinema Score.

5. Magic Mike (2012)

This Channing Tatum movie is one of the actor’s works as both actor and producer. It is inspired by his real-life and times as a male stripper. In the movie, Mike, played by Tatum, decides to bring on a young dancer () to make him into his protégé, teaching him the ropes of the male stripping business.

Magic Mike was a massive success and received an 80 percent approval rating from 206 critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It started showing in cinemas on June 29, 2012, recording a whopping $167.2 million worldwide gross on a meager $7 million budget.

6. Magic Mike XXL (2015)

Apparently, the first installment was successful enough to convince Tatum to work on a sequel. Magic Mike XXL, released in 2015, opens up three years after Tatum’s character, Magic Mike, left the stripper business and started his own furniture shop. He soon reconnects with his elite stripper friends and finds out they want to call time on their careers as well. However, the group bands together for one last hoorah to mark their bow out.

This second installment was created with a budget of $14.8 million and grossed $122.5 million. While it was just as commercially successful as its predecessor, its approval rating wasn’t as good. This Channing Tatum movie managed only a 65 percent approval rating and a 55 percent audience positive rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

7. White House Down (2013)

Channing was both executive producer and lead actor on this one. He plays the role of a US Capitol Officer John Cale who has to face some serious dangers in the bid to save his daughter and the President of the United States (Jamie Foxx) from a terrorist attack of epic proportions at the White House.

Tatum and other actors were praised for their role-playing and for the film’s spectacular action sequences. However, it was bashed by a significant number of critics who termed the movie as having a clichéd storyline and subpar screenwriting.

Its approval rating was at a relatively abysmal 51 percent from Rotten Tomatoes’s critics. The movie also just managed a $205.4 million worldwide gross on a $150 million budget, which was considered a box office failure.

8. Jupiter Ascending (2015)

So far the worst received Channing Tatum movie on this list. For this space opera, Tatum’s teams up in the lead role with . Tatum’s character Caine Wise is an interplanetary warrior who announces to multiple-jobs-working toilet cleaner, Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) that her destiny lies far beyond the shores of Earth.

A few critics were enraptured by the special effects and the build of the extraterrestrial world in the movie. However, a larger crop of critics lashed out at Jupiter Ascending, pointing out that it relies overtly on special effects and that’s it’s screenplay and characterization were incoherent.

In keeping with the criticism, the movie fell short of its $200 million budget, grossing just $184 million. Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience gave it a rating of 27 and 38 percent respectively.

 

9. Supercross (2005)

Granted, this is one of the earlier Channing’s Tatum Movies and he doesn’t play the lead character here. Still, he was involved enough to earn this movie an abysmal last place on this list.

The actor played the role of Rowdy Sparks. The story is surrounding two supercross rider brothers Trip and K.C. and how they beat all the odds—including themselves—to clinch the title of supercross champion.

Supercross received an almost consensus negative review from critics who basically hated everything about the film. They called it out for its grossly underdeveloped characters, its overused plot, and its infomercial feel.

The film got an unsurprisingly terrible 5 percent rating from a total of 74 critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Supercross could only recover about 10 percent of its budget. It was made with a $30 million budget but only recorded a $3.34 million gross at the box office.
