Charles Dance Biography and Age

The actor was born Walter Charles Dance on 10 October 1946 in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. He was brought up by his parents, Walter Dance who was an engineer and Eleanor Marion who worked as a cook. When he was only 3 years old, he lost his father and so the responsibility of raising him was solely on his mother. He also had two half-sisters from his father’s first marriage. Charles was born when his father was 72.

For his education, Walter Dance went to the Widey Technical School for Boys before he later moved to The Leicester College of Arts which is now known as De Montfort University. There he studied Graphic Design and Photography. It was while Charles was here that he first had the interest in becoming an actor. He got involved in the art school’s theatre group and when he met two retired actors, Leonard and Martin he realized that in them, he found what he described as kindred spirits.

In 1974, Charles Dance got his first TV role when he appeared in an episode of Father Brown. The next year, he got a role in Edward the Seventh, and by 2018 when he appeared in The Woman in White, Hang Ups, and The Little Drummer Girl, he had already appeared in close to 40 TV shows and productions including Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2015 and some voice acting roles.

His first film role was in For Your Eyes Only (1981) in which he appeared as Clause followed by Plenty in 1985 and then The Golden Child in 1986. In 1994, he played Robert Flaherty in Kabloonak, a performance that won him a Paris Film Festival Award for Best Actor.

Before the release of his 2019 films, Viy 2: Journey to China, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Fanny Lye Deliver’d, Charles Dance had already taken part in more than 60 films as an actor, writer, and director and he has got a number of awards including the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards in 2002 and Broadcasting Press Guild Awards in 2006.

Charles Dance’s Wife and Children

When the actor was 19, he met Joanna Haythorn whom he later married in 1970 shortly before his acting career kick-started in full. Thirty-three (33) years after they became man and wife, their union ended in divorce but that was not until after they had two children between them- Oliver Dance and Rebecca Dance.

Four years after his marriage ended, Charles Dance began yet another relationship with English actress Sophia Myles in 2004 when she was then still in her twenties. According to reports, he got the Thunderbirds actress believing that she was the love of his life before he dumped her in 2005. At the time, she was 25.

In 2008, Dance began yet another relationship with the artist Eleanor Boorman, 26 years old younger than the actor.

The couple got very close that by 2010, there was the rumor that they were tying the knot. This was later confirmed by Dance who revealed that they had been engaged for some time but kept things very private. He added that their marriage was going to be sooner than later. However, instead of walking down the aisle, they walked their separate paths in 2012, the same year that Boorman gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Rose Boorman.
