Chris was born into the family of Matilda (Raffa) and the late Mario Cuomo. His family is pretty large with five kids and it is one that has been very much involved in politics. His father was the governor of New York who served from 1983 to 1994 – three terms. Before then, the older Cuomo served as New York’s Secretary of State from 1975 to 1978 and then the Lieutenant governor (1979 to 1982).

Even though Chris has chosen to stay away from politics, his brother, Andrew Cuomo, stepped into his father’s shoes by towing the path of politics.
